Pondering things trailer queens never experience

All I can say is if you ever see one of MY cars on a trailer, call the cops 'cos it's STOLEN.

 

Only time my cars going somewhere and im not driving is cause I need a tow back home!

 

The smell of gas, oil and burnt rubber.

The sound of an open header V8 going through a tunnel.

Getting on a it little too hard and having your heart skip a beat when she gets loose.

The little nod and quick turn back from the blonde college chick as she and her coffee house BF cross the intersection your sitting at.

Stopping on a county road in the middle of nowhere, launching and seeing how much rubber you can lay.

 

I miss having a running, driving rod...I think I'll go out to the shop tonite and put the big shop fan in front of the deuce, sit in it making vroom vroom noises...and have Donna throw June bugs at my face.

 

Forgot to add for that rare occasion when I can't get it fixed, the AAA membership card.

 

Well her's another reason to trailer one of the rides we do. Best highway speed (all stock of course) is maybe 55-60. Duramax and 5th wheel, 75. Now I'm at Hershey in 8hrs and unloaded driving around with no damage to worry about. I'm also back home in time to decompress and start it all over again. Clearly many of these owners wish to keep em as new as possible for good reason. You win all you can and your car has "street creds". Now you go on tours and garage hops with no troubles and always starts hot and never overheats and always looks like the 100pt car it is. Which is worth more? The total trailer queen with the old varnished gas and corroded grounds that never starts hot but still looks like 100pts? The car that actually functions 100% and can drive 70 miles to go get his 100pts and drive home? I have a goal for my 41 160 Packard cpe. I want it to be a true benchmark of authenticity and detail, right down to color, fasteners, performance, everything. I have some ideas that are not OEM but nobody will be able to tell. I should be able to cruise 70 all the way to Amelia Island and back. I'll avoid the road rash with a defelector of some kind that won't damage the paint. Best of both worlds in my book. My kustom and hotrod projects will be both. Total show car and driver and I ain't shy to say that for the 1st part of my truck's life it'll be a trailer queen. When I'm done showin it's a different ballgame. I want it to age afterwards in a natural way. Call me crazy, anal, fucked up, I don't care. I gotta have em nice. I don't treat my dailys that way anymore but I used to. To busy building for myself and others.

Damn you Von Fink, I miss the store front gig in my own rides...fucker. You had to remind me, didn't ya. Although I did look pretty good 2yrs ago in that Murphy roadster even if it wasn't mine.

 

How about the adventures specific to low cars ...

Driving the path of least resistance, dancing around in your lane to avoid potholes. Taking up the whole width of a steep driveway as you leave, trying to get as much angle as you can, so you don't scrape so hard!

 

It's kind of a shame that an older guy that has "been there, done that", gets called a trailer queen or gold chainer if he chooses to take his wife and maybe another couple to a rod run in comfort.
Sometimes people really get full of themselves when they choose to belittle others. Some of those trailer queen guys have built some fine machinery over the years and slowing down a little because of age.
It is going to happen to all the macho, slam shifting, cool guys as time goes by.

 

These three are the ones that I like most. Even though my car is still half shiny half primer, she still gets looks. Even when she finally gets the makeup(paint), I still won't (I hope) be afraid to have a good time with her for fear of a little smudge.

 

Cruising is therapy for me. Haven't found anything on the stereo or CD's that I enjoy as much as the open window to hear the sound of the mellow pipes.

Heading 2 hours down the road to the Jalopyrama early tomorrow morning in a 55 two door sedan. Visions of Two Lane Blacktop come to mind.

Just can't get that from a box...............

 

I am sorry that you took my post wrong. I said in the begining that some have circumstances. Now myself and some others may or may not appreciate those circumstances but nevertheless my post is about what I think about when I pass a guy with an enclosed box loaded with what may be a "Don't Touch Me kinda ride".

Not throwing rocks, just making an observation and expressing the joys I get from making the numbers spin on my odometer.....

 

Roadside breakdowns and the great peopole you meet helping you get back on the road or (God forbid) hauling your hot rod home on their TRAILER. (Thanks luckyfasteddie.)

Speaking of trailers, did you ever get your fuel issues resolved?

I agree that it may work better for some people, but personally I'd rather drive the car. I look at it this way: do I want to risk losing my truck, trailer, and a high dollar show car, or just the show car?

well this thread sure took a wrong turn somewhere.

the point is things you experience driving your car opposed to hauling it on a trailer. he never said anything about manliness that i recall, or anything about trailer queens being shitty.

its really just a matter of mindset in my opinion, maybe the thread should have been titled "as the odometer turns, the experiences you have while DRIVING your h.a.m.b. friendly ride"

I drive my car, if it's going anywhere. That I would waste my time wondering why somebody doesn't ever take their car out of the garage would be.... a waste of my time.

The entire 'trailer queen' discussion is lame-brained. Unless of course one would be discussing mechanical things, tire design, air pressure, safe speeds, etc. about his trailer.....................

 

Especially if the "regular person" is an old timer like a WWII vet, etc. and was a teenager when your now old car was so popular. It really brings a smile to their face.

 

Trailer bashing never entered my mind when I started this thread. I just was wonder about all the things a trailered vehicle might be missing.

Doesn't matter how one frames something someone will always see it differently.

Seems so many get offended when the trailer word is mentioned. Just not sure we will ever see a thread done in the opposite fashion.

Now that is also something to ponder.

The sweet smell of freshly mowed grass.

Diesel exhaust fumes.

Wind and sun burn.

And the knowledge that you ain't no puss.

 

The one thing I like most is being 1500 miles from home in a vehicle I built myself and the realization that this bitch is gonna get me home and I will smile from ear to ear. Its neat driving a 70 year old piece of machinery that I have seen every bolt and nut in. And yes the world is Flat..........

All my cars/trucks get driven as I enjoy them on the road. My race cars were on the trailer, except back in the flat tow days.

I can see the high dollar rides/point chaser's/show type, being on/in trailers. It's their ride and their choice. Whatever way they want to go, is fine with me. You built/bought it, enjoy it how you want, no big deal to me.

I'll continue to travel/cruise and enjoy my rides and hope others have as much fun as I do. As I sure don't have them for anyone but Anne and I.
