We got snow last night, but it's gone now. Much different situation in Yellowstone, 1936.

Those rock chocks must have been popular, not to mention handy and affordable. I think this is a Dodge -- and the same car in both pix. Nature giveth some days.. and taketh away on others!

That is a Minerva, it may be in the Nethercutt collection now, that or a twin. :)

to an ambush set up based on phone tapping.

The wreck of "Fast Eddie" O'Hare, 1939, Chicago. He was
probably dead of a gunshot before hitting that pole. An enemy
of Al Capone (for helping put Big Al in the Big House), Eddie
was waxed on the very day in '39 when Al was released from
    prison. Just a coincidence? BTW, the car's a '39 Zephyr V-12.

THANKS, 37Kid! Now that you say Minerva, I see the fine herringbone grill copied by GM's "Baby Buick" Marquette.

Jimi..... That might possibly be a Pierce-Arrow with the lights mounted on a bar instead of the fenders which was optional and required in some states.....

BTW, the LAST pic was taken right on the Virginia/West Virginia border. Sorry I forgot to mention it!

My Grandfather was a chauffeur all his life. Sometime in the early 1930's he drove his boss from NYC to the country house here in Ridgefield in a blinding snow storm. When they arrived the owner got out of the car and slammed the door shut with his cane and told my Grandfather to get rid of the car and buy a new Caddy V16 with an enclosed driving compartment. Class act. :)

Are these from the 1910 Vanderbilt cup race?

  19. The first one is a big Daimler from about 1907-09. Possibly a 38hp poppet-valve model. They went to sleeve-valves in 1909-10.

LGS - Definitely Packard 8, but I think this is newer than first series, and just saw the file name included "1927"... so it might be 3rd series 8. I will see what I can dig up.

  24. Is it possible to get a closer look at the front hubcap?
