Let's not forget the Cord Comet which I believe is being restored now or has been recently. I thought there was a whole Hamb thread on it but I couldn't find it.

Here's a real oddball thanks to Kevin Huff. It was at an unusual 2006 estate auction in St. Louis. I wonder where it is now????

    http://www.huffreport.com/2006/2006estatesale.htm

The Cord was being built with a Hemi, and was going to be a truck(!), although for a while, Holley had originally planned on making it a dual cowl phaeton... Now that would have been plenty cool...

The Comet is a highly modified cord. It does have a S/C engine and Cord drive train. However the rear suspension is a Cord stub frame welded in backwards. The body was lowered about 4 inches (there is a bubble in the hood for the carb). It has no doors, I don't think there's a top for it. There is a spare tire mounted in the rear of the body where the trunk should be.

The car is owned by a person in New Jersey. However it is presently undergoing a restoration in a shop about 8 miles from my house. The car is in pieces and upside down having it's belly worked on. I would guess it has two to three more years before it gets out of the shop.

Thanks to every one that has posted here. My original plan a few years ago was to do a book on the modified Auburns, Cords, Hollywood Grahams, and Hupmobile Skylarks. Still a possibility some time in the future.

So, I've been keeping track of the modified ones for awhile although there is some that have been posted here that are new to me.

A friend is seriously looking for a Cord street rod right now, so if you know of any that could be "For Sale", please let me know by PM. He's getting up in age, so I'd like to help him fulfill his dream.

Please don't get me wrong, I like the original and restored cars just as much but I understand the reason for building a street rod. I think the post on Ray Smiths Cord says it best.

From a 1994 ACD Club Newsletter; The Jimmy Chi Cord. Maybe some one knows how to enlarge the images to make the article readable as I don't.

The one I posted with the Hudson straight 8 was listed for sale in this month's club newsletter. I like it because it's a period build but maybe your friend wants a more reliable drivetrain? Sorry about that link above, I have no idea how I messed that up.

You'll note they painted the windshield frame. Chroming and fitting that can be a multi-thousand dollar operation. It would be cool to see what this looked like coming out of the field.

And here is that same Cord as I photographed it in 2004. The owner at the time was trying to pass it off as a Cord prototyype which it is not. It's been in this condition since at least 1947 when it sat on the side of the road in Indiana. a friend in Illinois had to take this and another piece meal Cord when he bought his Phaeton from Homer Fitterling in 1962. The bustle back is from a 1939 0r '40 Buick.

I talked to the owner/builder of this car for quite a while this past summer at the Gilmore Museums "Red Barns" show. He's had the car for like 30+ years, built it entirely himself, on a shoestring budget. He built the bumpers from stainless round stock and solid bar stock. Nice guy, nice car, although it's not very "flashy", it's exactly the way he wanted it.

  18. Not knowing your workflow, I'm going to take a couple of guesses here that might help out

When you scan the pages, try doubling the scanner resolution setting. If you scanned these at 72 dpi try scanning them at 150 dpi. Somewhere in your scanner software there should be a place to change this setting. You'll want a final image size that's about 700x1000 pixels.

Also, before you upload them, make sure you're not doing something else that's downsizing the image back down to 350x500 pixels.

If you want to check your work, save the scan to your desktop, right-click it, click "open with" and select Internet Explorer. When it opens, place the cursor over it and see if the pointer turns into a circle with a "+" sign in it. If it does, click on the image and it should enlarge and you can check to see if it's readable.

yea he's a really easy older guy to talk to. Me and my dad talked to him at a local car show for about a half hour. This picture was taken at the Baker College show in may, also have seen/talked to him at the Circus Park car show on fathers day in Clio.

Hey Bob, the problem is there are so many modified/Hot Rodded Cords! I saw the Don Lee car in person a few years back at a show. I think the only Cord pieces are the front fenders?

Seeing the stretch Cord reminded me about a stretch Graham that was in the Hollywood, Ca. years ago. I don't know what happened to it, it was sitting in a body shop parking lot.

Claymart; Thanks for these instructions. I will have to play with them a little and see if I can learn how to do this right.

Thanks. Pictures of stock Cords are more then welcome here too. Here's one that a friend took Pheasant Hunting. Hey, it's just an old Cord. LOL This fellow was also building a Bonneville Cord with a Cord motor but I'm not sure what the current progress of that particular project is.

Strother MacMinn told me he used to own Gordan Buerig's personal Cord 810 that was black with a red stripe along the side, never saw a photo though- He said he sold it because it was still the depression and he felt too ostentatious driving it.

Also, my Dad painted one of those Cord kits cream with a red "Gee-Bee" style scallop in 1980 or so for a gangster named "T.R" that went to the big house soon after. (Pimp Deco maybe?) No photo of that either...
