Serious Ariel rider. I like that exhaust system - should qualify for a design award.

I believe that muffler is a variation of the "Brooklands Can", which became mandatory equipment in the twenties if you wanted to enter your race bike in races at Brooklands in the UK, due to noise restrictions. Apparently urban creep existed even in those days, and encroaching neighborhoods began to complain about the noise from the racetrack to the extent that a solution had to be found.

Speaking of 'God Cars', here's evangelist
    and by self-proclaimation, actually 'God
    himself, come to earth
    ':)eek:!!!) "Father
    Divine's" 178 inch wheelbase Duesenberg
"Throne Car". 'Jim and Tammy' were small
potatoes and had absolutely nothing on this
guy!:D By the way, the custom 'Throne Car'
body was built by 'Bohman & Schwartz', on
chassis number 2613 and engine number J587.
The body had a removable rear roof section
and a hydraulic platform that could raise the
throne, with 'Father Divine' sitting on it, up
through the open roof. The car, which cost
more than $25,000 to build in 1936, was
reportedly so heavy, that the rear wheels
kept breaking from the combined weight of
the bodywork, the throne and it's platform!

  9. I wonder if it is an early Speedwell - clue is the radiator shape and lines across it - compare - http://www.khulsey.com/stockphotography/speedwell-model-12-h-speed-car-1912.jpeg - I know the badge is looks different. Speedwell did a four cylinder car on a 116" wb in 1907-8 - this car's body looks a bit later than that - it has doors. This car could have had its body updated. All later Speedwells were bigger.

  10. I am not an expert on Harleys but I think this one is a 1937 45 cubic inch model - a WL?

Supposedly in China. Check the quilting around the hood. It almost looks like the winterfront material on the radiator has been rolled up, maybe a sign of spring?

I think you are correct, never looked at that photo before. Dad bought a '37 45 new and I spent 15 years collecting parts to build one just like it. The bike in the photo has the '37 tank logo, but it is on angle and the upper and lower stripes are missing. Don't know if Harley offered custom tank painting or it was owner applied. :)

This is a picture of British?? motorcycle sprint man Noel Pope. The bike I believe is a Brough - Superior with a JAP engine and it has a set of really neat Brooklands type silencers with the typical fish tails.

If you look closely you can also see a Roots type blower just behind the front tire....

Sorry for the confusion on this post. It is not my Dads Cord. It was just a picture I came across on the net with the caption "Dad and his Cord" So, I have no idea where it is now.

Plate looks to be Ohio, either '12 or '13.

Here is another unknown for you sleuths out there in cyberspace. I believe I have seen a photo of this brand before but cannot place it now.

It has a very distinctive radiator that looks like a later Reo but it is not one. I believe this car is a 1911-12 quality automobile and around a 40 or more HP judging by the size......

I think these tanks were maybe empty and the area was then flooded, which causing the air in them to float upward???? I have heard that coffins will do the same thing....

This is a nic sepia-tone pic of a 1913 Saxon. Did anybody out there know that
Hugh Chalmers was a force in getting Saxon started? Also, WHY do you never
see the LATER Saxons (made 'til 1922), just the early ones?

This is THANKS to the Surrey Vintage Vehicle Society, a major organization
and site for early auto aficionados.

Okay, someone submitted this one for ID to the SVVS which leans
toward a ca. '35 Chrysler product for the Ausie market. Anybody?

  26. It is a 1938 Chevrolet. That small crease along the side of the hood, below the handle, is distinctive. On the US models that crease continued into the door but on the Holden-bodied cars it didn't.

  28. The same thing happened to parts of the sewer system here after the magnitude 7.1 earthquake on 4 September. The pic is from Brooklands, a seaside suburb not far from me. http://www.odt.co.nz/files/story/20...er_manholes_out_of_streets_all_4c84d51a31.JPG

  29. I think it could be 1924, 25 or 26. It has no front brakes but they didn't become standard until 1927.

Yes, Pope and his supercharged Brough.

    This is Beatrice Shilling,

"Beatrice Shilling became famous for two things. First, as a university-trained engineer she solved a serious problem with the carburettors of Rolls-Royce Merlin-engined fighters such as the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Acrobatic maneuvres with these planes resulted in fuel starvation and engine cutouts, a serious drawback when chasing -or being cased by- a Messerschmitt Bf109. Beatrice solved the problem by fitting a restrictor in the fuel line, aptly named "Miss Shilling's Orifice".

Second, she knew how to fettle and race a cammy Norton and proved so be lapping the Brooklands track at 106 mph on the M30 prepared by herself, earning herself the Brookland Gold Star in the process. She raced and won from professional riders such as Noel Pope on his supercharged Brough Superior."
