I've seen you in action at an event. I will NOT try to keep up with you.. Garshman, I don't have that much energy.

My question is this. What has changed in the last few years to cause the demise of the Drag racing venues at the GGs events. Details. Insurance? etc. I really like the Drag race and love the Nostalgia Super Stocks. Will miss this type of event with GGs.
BTW. I do really like what you guys do and hope you continue to try and bring us the best in the business.

Just as I said. Just inform the customer a little as to to specifics of what we need to do and maybe these cancallations will not happen.

Sure has helped me in the 30 years I've been in business.

-Vintage Drag Races are very expensive to produce
-Dwindling Car Count. Had trouble filling race fields
-Numbers declined year after year except for Bowling Green 2010 which was a great event but it wasn't enough to substantiate coming back again
-Vintage Drag Racing is very splintered
-Gave it 3 years with numbers declining
-Too Many conflicting dates with other race promoters

Thanks Kirk for helping me out on that matter. Now I will be able to correct any of the rumors floating at Charlotte..........:D

  5. hmmm , maybe the shows ive went to all the trailers were parked else where .......... that must explain the 1/2 hour long wait on I-71 in columbus full of hotrods, customs, etc seemed like alot of cars being driven to me

i for one dont have a problem with someone who lives 200 plus miles away from a show trailering thier car to it

but it is aggreed that it is much cooler when its driven all the way

Yeah... I'd like to know exactly what year that show was that he went to and where... he's basically insulting about a thousand people who drive their cars and calling them liars. ;)

People love to whine about anything! If people constantly complain and become no-shows, that is on them... However, when all the events are gone don't cry about that too because if people are not showing up we will lose even more events!

It's like voting to me, if ya don't vote, then you don't have the right to complain! Goodguys is a nice show if you don't agree, don't go!

I should change the title of the thread to Who hates GG and why. Sorry Kirk for opening this can.

For the money I think the GG put on a great show, I definately feel with the Gazette and yearbook I get my money's worth. Plus you get a hat- and it isn't even red anymore which is kick ass. Oh and a mug so you can pour your sour grapes in as well.

To each his own. Next we will be told who to pray to and why we are stupid for how we do that.

This ain't taxes, you dont have to pay and you dont have to go.

I don't think the complainers will ever completly stop, but with a little explaination some of the ones with common sense will understand.

For me when I have questions I just present it to someone that can answer it with no uncertainty.

Kirk has done that and I am clear on the situation. Now I have Tuesday and Wednesday left to get the rest of the weeks work in as on Thursday morning I am pointing Okie south and heading to Charlotte...........................:D

Great news as the final word is out re: BSC, the Bader family will once again host the event in 2011! Very excited about this and will be waiting for next July.

    Even better news, Goodguys is out of the Vintage Drag Racing business! This is great, now I can Begin to make my plans for the 2011 seasons events. I'll start my check list something like this;

    • Cancel expensive hotel reservations for 3 days in Columbus for next year. Check
    • Cancel plans to register for GG Columbus. Check
    • Cancel plans to stay at IRP campgrounds for next year. Check
    • Cancel plans to register for GG Indy. Check
    • Cancel plans to camp at Beech Bend Campgrounds next year. Check
    • Cancel plans to register for GG Bowling Green KY. Check
    • Cancel plans to stay at Charlotte campgrounds @ Lowes. Check
    • Cancel plans to register for GG Charlotte. Check
    • Let my 12+ year membership w/GG expire when it is up next year. Check
Thanks, Kirk and crew at Goodguys, you guys, through your decisions have saved me a great deal of money. Money that can be better applied to my next project of my 100% home built, scratch built, home designed, and home executed, hot rod project. Sorry, I realize my last sentence had a few words the average Goodguy won't understand. Good luck on all your buisness ventures. I got to get to some real Hot Rodding now.

    GG free in 2011, wheeeee!!!

I went to the GG Pocono event this year, they moved it there a coupla years ago, from Hershey. I had thought of selling parts there, but GG Pocono's 'swap meet' on Friday consisted of TWO guys with a few misc parts, not really rod stuff. Maybe the next to be cancelled?

Am I disappointed about the changes............yes. But I'm not gonna let that stop me from enjoying my weekend at Charlotte.

And I have already booked my rooms for Indy September along with 4 other GG's events.

If I allow my frustration over dropped events to fester, then my family and myself will be the biggest losers.

Plus don't shoot the messenger for the message.......That being Kirk.

Thanks for all of the good info Kirk. I think we are lucky to have you here to get the real scoop on things instead of speculating and spreading untruths.

See you next year at GG Columbus and I'm sure lots of other GG events!

Wow is right, I only posted a hour or so ago, and everything starts up all over again. I am not condemning GG as a organization, just saying it is no longer for me, and in fact has not been for a while now, this is just the last issue that puts me over the top. I thought we on the HAMB were of like mind regarding the Hot Roding world. I my opinion, GG and the events they have are proof that bigger ,is not necessarily better.

Take Columbus for example, which I have attended from the beginning, there are usually 6000-7000 cars in attendance, right? Let’s break it down to see what really fits in what I thought is the HAMB world. Let’s first eliminate all cars that have arrived by enclosed trailer, flat bed, car hauler, tow dolly, or any other means other than driven there. Next, let’s eliminate all cars made out of billet, have absurdly large wheels and low profile tires (really what kind of look is that?), and of course eliminate muscle cars because who cares anyway. Lets eliminate all those who show up solely to win a prize, and who bitch about the process, the categories, the judging, etc if they don’t win. Let’s not forget those who have paint jobs that cost more than most of our cars, or cars worth more than some of our houses, ( maybe they should be called the Richguys). Let’s also not leave out the “home built heaven” entries who check half the boxes on their entry sheet as work done by others. Fortunately even GG gave up on the “young guys” category, where kids would borrow their Dad’s or Grandfather’s car for the weekend, and portray they built it, (come on you remember some of those right?). Now after that filtering process, I believe we have gone from 6000-7000 cars, to the size of a large local cruise in. I’ll save my money and go to one of those.

GG have bailed out of vintage drag racing, and created a event called “auto cross”. Yeah, watching a bunch of Cameros going around cones in a parking lot is almost as exciting as watching vintage fuel cars drag racing! Come on folks, auto cross, really? This is an event? All I se it does is take up far too much valuable space, such as in Columbus in the parking lot, and forces the rest of us to compact our parking elsewhere. Has GG brained washed people to make them think this is actually something, or is the real reason that it cost them virtually nothing except some orange cones and a stop watch, seeing the venue is already rented? I’m sorry my roots are in drag racing, not sports car slalom courses.

Going back to the bigger is not better, anyone living in northern Ohio, try going to Winks drive in on a Saturday night, and hang out with maybe a hundred cruisers, swap stories, get a burger grilled outside, and watch a live band under the neon lights, and then tell me that’s not cool. Or, try checking out the annual Lakewood Care Kulture show, that closes off a half dozen blocks in Lakewood, and hosts cars, bikes, trucks, etc of the old school variety, along with a number of good bands throughout the day, and a genuine kulture vibe. That’s a good time. Lets not forget Dragway 42 and their Rock and Race event. Another great event dripping with kulture, cars, bands, and oh yes drag racing. What about Rebel Run? I could go on but you might get the point.

The point is that the Hot Rod world doesn’t begin and end with GG. Remember they were born out of a discontentment with another big organization, and how they did things. So I feel, for me, and my discontentment with GG, I will focus on the type of events I listed above and many more similar type of events into the future.

First off, a year here and 10 posts, not sure you qualify to speak for "we on the HAMB".

It's about driving your car, not watching... DRIVING... lots of HAMB'ers have had a bunch of fun with this.

What are these 100 cars? Are they all HAMB friendly? Or does the cross section mimick your bitching about what was at a GG meet?

i'm going back to gg columbus just for many of those reasons. it's become a spectacle on the order of the 'old' street machine nationals, and i wanna be a part of it.

see, back in the 'old' days, you could see everything on 4 wheels at the street nats. the other big show was the nsra nats, and while i've been to a quite few of those shows, the variety of cars wasn't nearly as diverse as at the street nats. lots of early fords and a few dorks with the anything pre-48 snobbery that has led to the present state of the nsra. guess what? i love the fact that they've opened up to newer cars, it might make 'em relevant again.

there are so many shows that filter the attendants down to a few cars of your particular interest or niche, you don't have to go to the big shows if you don't want to. i want to, and i'm glad i have the opportunity to go to both the hamb drags and gg columbus. thanks to kirk, goodguys, the hamb and ryan, you guys make it all possible, and that's what really matters...

I've been to the last 10 columbus events. And we love it for the reasons the above poster is bitching about. Its just a fun weekend to be in the middle of.
That's the only long weekend me and my wife get away for. We leave buttcrack early Thursday and stay til Sunday afternoon.
We hang with our friends, eat,BS, eat, hangout, watch the craziness, BS, eat etc for 4 days.

And I've never once in all those years went to the races in the evenings. We're always in the middle of a hotel gathering.

So see ya in July in Columbus!
