Think about how many Funny Cars have been ***embled at ONE PLACE since the 70's Total amount of Funny's at Bakersfield was 54.... 39 Nitro cars of which 2 didn't make p***es. 5 in 7.0 2 in 7.60 2- Jungle Jim Novas 1- Wild Willie Cackle Car 1- Venny Vega 4 in the Swap Meet area Thanks to Big Bob for the calculations.
It was awesome to see it in person, especially session two of qualifying when 37 nostalgia funny cars made a p***. There's very few things better then watching nitro funny cars running down the track, lap after lap, for two straight hours.
I need to go in a near future. BTW, the reason for their popularity must be the bodystyle, compared to todays asphalt bubbles. I love it
It was truly awesome to see that many Funny Cars....that ACTUALLY LOOKED like the model they were badged as!!
A32FLATHEAD gave me a great idea, let's see if we can get a picture of every funny car that was at the CHRR. Here's the cars I took pictures of : Jason Rupert's Mert Littlefield Tribute '69 Camaro Dale Plude's War Eagle '77 Trans Am Shawn Nault's Alaska Guy '70 Cuda Bob Godfrey's Burnin' Money '69 Camaro - foreground, John Hale's Nitro Boss '69 Mustang - background Mike Adams' Coors Tribute '79 Corvette John Capps in the Texas Jungle '70 Camaro Josh Crawford's Blue Max '69 Camaro Gary & Steven Densham's Teacher's Pet '69 Camaro Mike Smith in the Brand-X '70 Camaro
Those numbers reminds me of the Coke Cavalcade of Funny Cars shows. They typically had 64 cars and they would line them up starting line to finsh line in both lanes and fire them before the start of eliminations.
Since when did blankets, diapers and gerdles become nostalgic on F/C engines? Why are'nt they on the T/F cars?
I painted Dave's F/C and his altered body in a week in his garage. Picture courtesy of my buddy Troy Cagle.
NITROFC thanks for sharing this photo, that's me and my dirty knees attempting to steer Jason Rupert's funny car up to the line.
Just a thought on the difference between yesterdays F/C bodies and todays. I don't know about the rest of you guys & gals, but I have trouble identifying todays production cars out in traffic. Virtually all manufacturers have gone to the aero "jelly bean" look. Without logos or name badges, a bunch of what I see every day look pretty much the same. Now transfer that thought to modern funny cars, and what do you get? A bunch of very similar "aero jelly bean" looking race cars...with decals to ID the brand! Just my 2 cents...
I have to agree with Rich, todays F/Cs all look alike. I lost interest in the flopers, and T/F cars when they went to the same body, same with P/S.

The 64 car shows were great !! We did race at most of them at OCIR, PIR & SIR The Coke shows most of the time time were 8 cars, some ran in conjunction with the 64 Funny Car events
