I just picked up a Man-A-Fre manifold with carbs (probably just good for cores) and had some questions about it. Does anyone sell a linkage that will work for it? How do these things perform? Finally are these things worth very much?
Absolutly worthless. Send it to me and I will recycle for you and send you the cash back!!! Ba HA HA hA
That's the American Graffiti manifold. They were advertised in the 60's as being as good as fuel injection. I don't know anyone who actually ran one to tell you if it was good or just ok. Linkage would be fabricated by the owner. You can buy a kit to start from but you'll have to finish it. Because of the offset from side to side, no one that I'm aware of makes a bolt on.
Here are some ads the company sent me in '62-'63. I don't know how to get these pics any bigger but they may be helpful Bill
new guy here!!! if you can get all the linkage, carbs and fuel linesn and finally tuned, it will run like a raped ape!!!! If you can find the really rare afterburner kit, it will run some what better. some times they are found complete on fle=bay complete. then hope you have deep pockets. good luck with the project
Although I was interested in them when they came out I never saw any information or write-ups about their performance in the auto mags of the times in the 60s but a carb sitting directly over each pair of intake ports struck me as a very sensible arrangement for tuning for power. I remember being very surprised when they ran their last ad in one of the Petersen Publications car mags in which they announced they were withdrawing from the market. It had something to do with not being able to clean up the emissions they produced.
Get ahold of Rudy at carb94@charter.net he has done several multy carb set ups for me and I have been very satisfied. He is in Spartanburg, SC ....... Lon
They're worth a bit to a guy who wants one. They do well on built sbc. There's no progressive llinkage each carb feds 2 cylinders. Get in touch with Dickster27 or Stromberg97 here on the HAMB and they'll help you out.Buddy had one on a built 327 and it moved, but stopped at the gas station alot too. Good score
Great conversation piece but not for street use...I mean, they are not 'efficient' with now a days gas prices but who cares if your building a Hot Rod.
I've often wondered if the Ford(Weber) staged 2bbl 4banger carbs would do well on a setup like that or on a dual carbed T-A-B block as well. Everybody calls them Webers but they're really just Ford Pinto/Bobcat/Mustang II 4banger stock carbs.
Put the Moon Fuel Injector Carbs on it now................saves the headaches..........sometimes technology has a place.
i'm pretty sure that you've finally found the hens teeth, that so many of us have a hard time finding.
Ran one on my car for last 3 years trouble free, made the linkage out of brass rod from welding shop and heims, took it off cause it doesnt cover the ports of my new cast heads. Will be on another model a shortly though.Make sure the throttle shafts are tight and the linkage has no slop, run a good fuel filter and there an excellant intake throttle response is like fuel injection.
Eelco has linkage...don't know if he is still around, maybe e-bay only(?) http://www.eelco-usa.com/ This is listed as the "log style" linkage, which would make sense on the Man-A-Fre, as opposed to another type he lists for in-line carbs
----------------------- Great Stuff! Here's some enlarged versions of your pics that *may* be a bit easier to view. If you can e-mail me copies of the originals, I might be able to make better copies without losing so much resolution when I enlarge them. Mart3406 =====================
i heard that they were kinda a pain to run on the street. Like to load up a bunch. Who cares! just means you gotta keep your foot in it more!
Eelco in Portland, OR. still makes the linkage kit for it. The impossible part to find is the original fuel log that bolts in the center.
i am running the same setup on my 32 pickup. larry at automotion can help you with your linkage, and carbs. http://hotrodcarbs.com/ once you get the carbs synced together they work great. you will need to jet the carbs for your motor and altitude. mine runs a little on the fat side. i have over 10,000 miles on it so far, and i am still fine tuning, but that is just me. here are some pictures of the setup and fuel lines i made. -danny

I agree with Danny...Larry Fulton is the fella a complete ZEN master with rochesters and multi carb set ups....
