Classic filling station shot circa 1936. The monoplanes
up there look like a cool gimmick, too!

Circa '35 or '36, note they're advertising the "Electric Hand"
assisted shifter! There were lots of engineers working on the
forerunners of true automatic transmissions in the mid-'30s.

Billy Sunday was one of the greatest evangelists of the 20th century.

  12. That Dodge Brothers is a 1916 Studebaker ED 6-50 Open Roadster. Probably quite a rare car as this style was only produced for a few months in late 1916.

  13. Yes it is an Indian Four - date somewhere between 1930 and '35. Is the rider a policeman or maybe an Autoclub patrolman? That looks like a 1931 Chev on the right. From Thelma's hairstyle I guess both vehicles were quite new when this picture was taken. Thelma's place doesn't look very big - I guess they had to move the tables for the dancing!

Dear Old School....I would love to know if you have more Ralph Hamlin photos? I am a second cousin and love the family history! (And am very curious where you got the bike shop photo!!) In addition, I have reason to believe that this hysterical photo with the barrel may be at Ralph's La Canada property....and that may be his wife, Clara on the left and his father, Lewis, in the background?!! Where did you get this great photo?? Kerry

  15. Nice '31 Plymouth coupe on the right. I guess that as it is on wires it is the Deluxe model with the rumble seat.

  21. I think it is a four cylinder Chrysler from the mid 1920s - probably the 1925-6 Model 58 which was on a 109" wb. The next year they put a short stroke crank in the motor and gave it a 103" wb to make the Chrysler 50 and put a six on the 109" chassis to create the Chrysler 60. The 109" chassis was used for many Chrysler products through to 1931:- Plymouth, DeSoto and Dodge DD etc. Even the cowl area on this looks the same as on my 1929 Plymouth - the raised bit in the middle is where the FEDCO number is stamped.

  22. I think the car in the centre of the picture is a circa 1925 Yellow Cab.

First Peugeot Diesel - Circa 1923.

From the Aug. 1924 issue of 'Popular
Science' magazine - "New Auto Engine
    Burns Oil For Fuel
    "

[ Excerpt - "Although the experiment
was not considered an absolute success,
the Peugeot firm is satisfied that it is on
the right track toward evolving a power
unit that can dispense with gasoline or
its substitutes, the supply of which is
    diminishing
    " ]
    ------------------
Interesting that even a far back as
1923 there was a fear that gasoline
    supplies were diminishing.:)eek:) Even
odder though was that notion that
'heavy oil' - ie - diesel fuel, was not
    considered a "gasoline substitute"
that would thus also be in equally
    short supply!

In each photo, we have a guy with two ladies. The guy with the Mitchell doesn't look so happy as the other guy (Model T?) -- with a Morrison, Wisconsin pennant. Is it because Mom and his aunt made him dress up like that?
