Projects 59 El Camino.. Build Pics

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by J.Fishbeck, Jan 2, 2010.

  1. Found this picture of the 'Actuated' t/light, on the web. It's a different approach, not sure I like it. A 2.5" chop to boot. There's more wrong than right, on this thing. Glued in windshield, no moldings, molded bumpers an on & on.. For 102K, no way Jose!

I'm not gonna quote those pics, no need for that thing to appear more than it already has. Mike is right though, that thing is just wrong.

First thing i thought of was a batman taillight to punch your enemy in the stones. he can't fight back if he is on the ground holding onto his nuts. lol.:D

The Elky is looking better all the time Jay.

And I have not forgotten about your stainless, just been really busy.

I think what you mean is: "He forgot more than I know." :D

  5. Gracias, Hombre!

Looking really good man , Keep it up.

  8. Aww shucks, ya'll just sayin' that! Thanks guys

  9. So I polished up the "Ventilator's" stainless & put them back together. Started with the sisal wheel. Here's a 'trick o' the trade' for ya. When your pulling the part up to you, opposite of the wheels motion.. it is cutting. And polishing, when you follow the wheels motion going down.

Then I changed the pads accordingly, cos the rougher rouge will always come through. Even if you do clean it with a screwdriver or whatever.

Then I put them back together..

Trying to keep busy, while I wait for the hinges. Thursday, I am going to try and sandblast the bed. I have lots to keep me busy, actually!

I like the buffing job you're doing. Sounds like you're going to have fun "blasting" the bed......

  11. I was supposed to stop at the paint store for an air respirator, Imma have to stop and get one today before they close. So I can blast first thing in the morning. Hinges are done!

I like the self lubricating brass bushings in this pic. They ride on the shoulder of the bolt. Pic is blue, since it was taken in the shade this morning.

  12. I have no idea what you have into those hinges as far a time and $$, but as a fellow '59-60 Elky owner with at least 1 f'd up hinge, I'd bet you have something pretty marketable there.

To be honest, I don't know what the aftermarket has but those are awesome.

Those hinges are unbelievable........Things look as though they're coming along nicely.

I drove mine today after getting it back yesterday. I got about 5 miles when recent my eBay speedometer started jumping between 25mph and 80mph while I was going about 30. I'm going to take my old speedo on to have new odometer numerals installed, which was the only thing wrong with it to begin with.

  14. 'A lot' of time went into designing them on MasterCam. And more than thirty hours machining time. Eric at Gazelle machining, is willing to make more. Reasonable for what you get. There are none out there available in the aftermarket world. I just showed them to my Dad. He says to me, "It's a shame to cover them".. But I really feel it would be tacky to leave them unpainted.

  15. My original speedo lens was kicked in & broke, so I bought another complete speedo head(and bezel) on Ebay for $30. I have a new speedo cable. I just hope my Epay unit works. This is my first car to have the right gears matched w/ the tire size and rr end ratio. I feel relieved to have the hinges now.

  16. Ok, so we are all waiting on a selling price for the hinges. Time to make yourself a little Christmas money right?

  17. I'm OK with that.
    Nice parts. :)

  18. My signature is actually a post, asking if anybody is interested in buying a pair. Right now is the time, too. Eric has only a few little projects to do, before he would be able to make more. Let me know peoples!

  19. If we lived in Tibet, maybe money wouldn't be an issue. But I can't spend 'at-a-boys' & 'thank yous' at my local grocery store! I've even tried my good looks, needless to say.. Imma little skinny muh' fucker!

I was refering to this somehow it just doesn't look right. Even though hundreds of hours and many thousands of dollars have been spent.

  22. With everything shaved and molded in, plus the windshields glued in, it makes it look like it was fiberglass. But no.. it's just another case of 'beauty' killing the beast.

I eliminated my quote/pics . That should help a little...........:)

  26. I knew sooner or later I was going to regret posting those pictures.. Pulling maintenance on the secondary air compressor, the oil had graphite looking material in it as it drained out . Don't know if it's bearing wear or what.. So no blasting today. Bummer! So I welded up the holes in the bottom of psngr fin. Something I've been putting off!

This old velour came in handy protecting the bodywork.

That's a bad spot man, ya think it might be better to graft in new metal instead of chasing all the pinholes? I did the same on mine, on the same side but the piece was cut from a donor car so I had total access to the whole thing. I feel your pain, but please don't stop.

  28. I'm with Nads. Chasing pin holes can be tedious & can easily leave thin spots where it just hasn't rusted through - yet.

The build is looking great though. I look forward to the updates daily.

  29. I'm throwing the dice on this one! It took a while to finally fill all those damn holes & 'chasing' is right.. That's why I put it off for soo long. I will redo it if it fucks up later, but I'm done for now.. Eff it!
