Just to clear up some history on Cole, in the 70's and early 80's he owned Cole's Streetrod components in Sac (Auburn and Madison). The body shop you refer to was Central Auto Body in Orangevale. The 34's there belong to me (red one) and Greg Everitt (green one with a track nose, and his parents owned the shop). Cole's car never sat there much.We are all still close friends.

Jan. 12th 1904, Henry Ford sets a land-speed record of 91.37 mph on the frozen surface of Michigan's Lake St. Clair. He was driving a four-wheel vehicle, dubbed the "999," with a wooden chassis but no body or hood.

91 mph.. on ice... Henry was the man.

I got to see the 999 about a month ago at the Henry Ford museum. I looked at it for a while and though to myself this is undoubtedly the first hot rod built.

    Very cool.

Saw this a/altered for sale at the Lineville Car Show (Lineville Al, a great late season show 750-800 cars, great weather)this past weekend. It does look wicked, reeked of past history and glory. Oh yea, now I remember, it is my car. Thanks for sharing my thoughts wingnutz. My first post. neaterstuff 42

The late Dick Kraft in 'The Bug'. If not the definition of a hot rod, definately the definition of a hot rodder. RIP...

In my opinion, a real hot rod has to have the 'nads to back up it's looks as well as be owner-built. This one is both and will always be THE hot rod in my eyes
