  2. I retract my previous statement of this car being to nice to cut up. Having bought a rough project in February I can appreciate wanting to use a nice body to begin with.

Ok, just for clarification for those nay sayers, with the frame at ride hight and a level from cowl, to radiator shell you can see the drop from cowl to shell. with a hood top on it should be visually appealing even to the most discriminating tastes.

Yes, the better the start, the better the whole project. I like my desert cars, but they will adjust nicely when i move (retire) to your neck of the woods. Ill be hauling both the roadster and the coupe up to the olympic peninsula sometime next summer.

Except for the boring motor choice (my .02$), this coupe is looking great. Keep it up ...

I know, if we could all have hemis then yours wouldn't be a stand out. Nice car, we are moving in the same direction, only different at times. Dig the tradition.

Cutting up a rare Model A, there were only 4,849,340 made. Why start with junk if it's cost effective to start with a nice body. My friend bought a nice A coup, sold about everything but the body and built a rod. People gave him crap too, but he saved a ton of money and time. Great looking car.

Ballsy move cuttin' up that nice car. I don't blame you, though.

The car is coming along very nicely. Keep up the good work.

what a boring car, chopped model A coupe, 32 rails, 4" dropped drilled axle, small block chevy, multiple carbs, 32 shell, ect, ect......

boy you just couldn't get anything right with this thing, next time maybe build something original OK? On a serious note, looks like the car is coming along great

We will be settling in Sequim, and I am surprised every time I am up there how many hotrods are around, and the quality of them is outstanding.

You are correct, that gives me enough clearance when the suspension is is fully collapsed. Hoping that I never hit a bump that hard, but the roads around here suck and I've hit some big ones in my roadster that just about launched me out of my seat.

Awesome build so far! Just a question...what are the headlights off of? I just love big headlights on a Model A.

The headlights are off my '32 when I changed them with smaller ones. They have the hologen bulb conversion and hidden turn signals behind the glass. The only problem is they throw light everywhere except down the road. On coming traffic hates em and they are alway flashing me to turn down the high beams. But they do look good!!

Got back into the garage and spent the whole day working on the coupe. I needed to clearance the firewall for the distributer and wanted to keep as much of the original look. So, with my cutoff wheel, hammer and dolly I dove into the project. A lot of welding later, some bondo and primer, voila, done.

Yeah I got busy and forgot about the swap meet and show. Cant complain was a good day, I also bobbed the front frame rails. I'll probably Pick up some tubing and make the spreader bar tomorrow. I also plan on rounding the front like a Model A frame. But that cant wait until after Coffee.

Now you have me rethinking the firewall bottom chop. You need a shorter radiator, grille shell modification and what else? [IMG]

  25. Kool build,I am just wanting to ask one question,Where the subframe is channelled over the chassis in the middle of the door opening, how far is it out from the chassis rail edge?If you channelled it 1 1/2 " and it's only 1/2" or so from the edge I'm just wandering if you had to modify the subframe door area?
Just going thru this myself and trying to work it out.

    Thanks Chris

You have to relocate the toe kick and raise the cross sub-rails flush with the top of the floor. The rear sub-rails have to be removed and remade to fit the 32 frame kick up. Lot of labor, but not very hard to complete.

Once the cross sub-rail was removed and raised and the rivets that where there removed, there was no issue. so the door area looks completely stock no modifications. At the middle of the door, the body is about 3/4' out from the frame sort of like a duece.

  28. Cheers for that. The 3/4" out from the frame tells it all.

  29. I'm jealous. All I've ever got to start with were rusty heaps. LOL

  30. Any more progress? I can't wait to see this thing with paint!
