I'm going on holiday with my family to Florida. I'm stopping in a hotel on Disney and will be there from 21st October to 4th November. Can anyone recommend any shows, cruises or swapmeets that will be on during that period. Have use of car therefore can travel. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance Andrew
Billetproof Drags is Sunday Ocotober 24th in Lakeland,FL not too far from Orlando I'll be flying down for the show..also the day before Ocotober 23rd in Ocala at the drag race museum is a hot rod & kustom car show..if you make it to either stop by and say hello I'll be wearing an Arrowood Hot Rod Company shirt http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510948
don garlits museum is worth a visit, is old town cruise still on? was always a good night out with plenty for everyone to do, florida speed world drag strip was on i50 i think, have'nt been to florida for a while, try roger butterwoth on rods and sods (sg57) he lives there 6 mounths of the year
Stay two more days and you can catch the FLA Roadsters annual meet in Melbourne. But I'm sure changing flight plans is out of the question. When you hit Florida look for a copy of Mike Kelly's Cruise News. All kinds of listings for events, cruise nights, and rod shop ads. Lee
Man you showed up at the right time. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=506666BPD102Showpost-1.jpg
http://www.daytonabeachdreamcruise.com/ October 22, 23 & 24th all weekend, Saturday big night for the Deuce of Spades Reunion (new hot rod film) see the link for info. and on your way to or from Disney there's Route 46 in Sandford. Garage Bar at Route 46® is not your parents' watering hole! It's cool, flirtatious and combustive. The Garage Bar at Route 46® takes you on an exhilarating ride by incorporating hot rods, classic car collectibles, and vintage cars with innovative lighting and sound. Along with the high-octane music and entertainment, this is the destination for shameless fun from happy hour to late night. The Main Stage at Route 46 has been host to rock and country bands and various musicians. The Back Stage at Route 46 was the site of a large holiday concert and costume event. With our full service bar, food menu, nightly entertainment and a staff with a lot of personality, you won't go home without a few stories! You have to experience the roar of the Garage Bar!
They have a Saturday night Cruise in Old Town every Sat night, weather permitting they usually have 200-300 cars, well worth going, there's alot to do, just ask anyone where old town is it's only a few miles from Disney!!
still runnin I didn't even know about that cruise and I planned to hang out in Daytona Beach Saturday night..now I'm even more stoked..thanks!
Ditto on Don Garlits' Drag Racing hall of fame/museum in Ocala, only about 1 hour drive from Orlando. You can easily spend 4-8 hours there. Also, very nice Packard Museum in the Fort Lauderdale area.
October 23rd, Hot Rockin Nights Car Show in Rockledge. I am still getting the time and exact location info from JW Performance. They build my ALL my auto tranny's, and some of the best race and performance tranny's in the world. BDM
If you are any kind of gearhead at all you MUST make it to Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing Oct. 23, 2010. He is putting on a nice medium sized hot rod show, free to spectators and the museum (not free to spectators) is a MUST see. Figure 3-4 hours for Museum alone. Oct. 24, 2010 is the Billetproof Drags at Lakeland Motorsports Park, Lakeland, FL. Come by the Billetproof Merchandise booth at either event and we'll get you a nice goodie bag of Billetproof swag to take back across the pond with ya.
You BEST be at the "Billetproof Drags" this Sunday at the Lakeland Drag Strip! Come see the Florida "Poor Boys" !
Old Town on Fri. & Sat. evenings,Fri. is newer cars & Sat. is older like 1970 and older, Usually starts about 4 pm and lasts untill about 9 PM lots and lots of cars and live music. Old town is about 1 mile East of Disney , headed to Kissimmiee.
flacarshows.com . another good show is the lake mirror car show they always have some incredible cars and stars . they feature a new grand marshall each year and car marque. it has ranged from big daddy to this year is lynn st james. i think stirling moss was a grand marshall and a host of others cars range from a recreation of the first mercedes quadriclycle sent by the factory from germany to nascar stock cars to big daddy top fuelers to porsche 917 etc . it's a shame it's the same weekend as the garlits show but if your family is with you it maybe a better show to attend as there is a lot of stuff for the kids also
If you are ready to let your hair down, drive south to Fort Lauderdale and visit with the Saints and Sinners CC at the Monterey Club. Check us out at www.themontereyclub.net.
wish I would have known about that place when I was in Fort Lauderdale for a week in July...oh well, guess I'll just have to spend extra time there when I move there in January
Another nomination for Garlit's place and then the Billetproof Drags... laid back fun in perfect weather...
Garlits' Museum would be a must.......Only a little over an hour north on I-75....exit 341......I was just there about 2 weeks ago on our way home from Disney World.....could have stayed all day.....Well worth the stop.
