Motion Pictures Chopped Mercury in Iron Man II?

I remember all the hubub over the Roadster that was in Iron Man. There's more shots of it in the second movie,but when I was watching it last night I noticed a******in chopped Merc sitting next to the Roadster in his shop! I paused it to try to get some ideas of the details so I could mention them today. Looked like a 49 or 50....also looked like it was dark maroon,maybe purple.

Anybody know who's it is?

"We got some good cars in this one - the 1949 Mercury and the new Audi R8 spyder. We even stuck a fold-up airplane in his garage. That's pretty cool. It is more window-dressing than anything but we've got definitely cool, classic automobiles. Tony has the definitive car of every generation. The Peterson Museum loaned us a few of their classic cars but the cheapest one is mine - a 1932 Ford Flathead Roaster. It doesn't really belong in there, but it's a classic and the flamed out one is the one toy I have. I'm not a collector but I do like the old-fashioned Fifties style hot-rod. That's something I got many years ago."

 

I just asked Robert Downey Jr, and he has no idea. Sorry Bob, was hoping I could get some info for you...

I would guess if it's maroon, and came from the Petersen museum, it's maybe Bruce Meyers Balion built car?????

 

Bailon painted it once buy Rod Powell built it as Ive come to find out.

 

i think that merc was in custom rodder years ago, the article was on that merc and a stocker that was maroon.......john

 

I think Bailon painted it maroon with white scallops.

 

I hate to sound really dumb ,but what is Iron Man II, a movie,TV show? Never heard of it.

I was in hopes that in the Iron man 2 he would have driven the roadster. I was wanting to hear what it sounded like and see it haul**** down the hiway.

 

Bruce Meyer's Bailon chopped Merc, lots of photos of it if you search Merc gathering or Sacramento Autorama

 

Really? I was at that Merc Gathering,and I don't remember that car. I'll have to go back and check out my pic's....

Never knew Bruce Meyer had any Customs. Thought he was just a Hot Rod guy....

And im 99% sure its the same one on Home Improvement, Bailon medallion on the side gives it away.

 

From the clip, it sounds like he owned that Merc at one point.

I haven't seen Iron Man II, cool to see a custom Merc in there.

 

After watching the clip....yep,that's the same car! I stand corrected my friend!!!

 

I just watched Iron Man II, and the Mercury is in a number of shots... tres' cool!!!

Kudos to John Favreau for getting some screen time for our hobby!

 

If you can find the episode of the show called "Iconoclasts" (maybe on youtube) from the Sundance channel with Jon Favreau and Tony Hawk, he spends a bit of time talking about and driving in his roadster.

 

Is that Bruce at 55 seconds in the suit of coarse. Forgive me if it`s not.

 

That Merc is a freakin' beauty. Wowza.
