Wow, Rik and Palle, this is really something special and thanks for sharing it! The history of Kustoms is in good shape...so awesome! Rob
Thanks for the post. Jim Street has been so villified here and elsewhere that its great to read a nice post about a private thoughtful guy... You've done a great service!
Great story Rik, hopefully more Customs will go to Europe or better to the Netherlands Groeten Hennie

Palle & Rik.....THANKS for the very interesting day, it was too short! You two are fun guys to be around. I hope Jack & I can make the trip over when you finish this AWESOME restoration. cw.
Thanks for the details of the trip guys. My dad has pictures of the Kookie T in the Red/white before the duals and stacks were added. I am not sure if Jim owned the car at that time but I would bet so, it was heading East in a Custom Hauler. Year was 69 or 70? It stopped at my dads dealership for work to the hauler I believe? I will try and get them on a scanner and post.
Hung out with these two most of the day..gotta say they are my 2 favorite people from Norway!!! (inside joke) Tman- Jim did own the kookie car when it was repainted pearl white...he's had it for a very long time... I got to see some of the shots they scanned and they are pretty much amazing.
Jack's been using that phrase forever ... here it is on the luggage rack of his Deuce Roadster @ the Roadster Round-Up in 1972: click thumbnail to enlarge
What an awesome trip guys!! What a feeling it must present to the builder, to have a couple of guys from the other side of the world come praise his work..... truly awesome!
We had a great day at the Barris shop yesterday. Piero and Brett where great to hang around with... and the archives are just FANTASTIC... every where you look you see tons of photos, color transparancies, negatives, posters old magazines... I could spend a year there and still would find new still. The good thing is they shared all that wonderful stuff... I got to scan some of it, and I took some great photos. The photos will come as soon as we get into a new motel with a proper internet connection. This hotel just does not work with uploading stuff. We spend most of the day at the shop, and had an apointment with George, but things got a little mixed up and it was looking like we would not be able to talk to him in the end. But as we where packing our gear to head back to our hotel, George walked in, all dressed up to got to a party and we where introduced to him by Brett. At first not much happend, but after Palle and I explained what we where doing, and had told him we spoke with Jim Street, Bob Drake and Jack Stewart, his face changed and he opened up to us. He talked and talked, and looked at the scans we made at Jim, Bob and Jack's. And he had a really grat time, telling us stories from way back, together with his buddy Jack. We will be having email conversations with him concerning the car, since he needs to concentrate on it to remember all the details. But I'm confidend we will hear some more great stories about the car, Jack and the adventures in the coming weeks. Unfortunately there where no new old photos from Jacks car at the Barris shop... but the great stories sure made up for it. Photos will follow!
Rik and Palle -- Enjoyed hearing about your traveling iin the United States and all the interesting people you met. Rik and Palle -- it must be exciting to visit with legendary customizers and sharing stories. Looking forward to seeing more informative stories and photos on HAMB. Keep up the great work. Between the two of you, it has become a very, very interesting thread and definitely one of my favorites. Thanks, Bill
Thanks, I was pretty sure he owned it then. I will get the details from my dad next time I am over at their place.
Yeah I'm hoping I come across more pics of the jacks / palle car.. There is so much at the shop that I find new stuff every day..George had to of shot pics of that car the thing is that when that car was around George just was getting into photography so were hoping we get lucky... I had fun hanging with you guys and feel I definatly made some long time friends!
Rik and Palle, thank you for sharing with us here on The HAMB. We all look forward to seeing and hearing more on the research trip ! Great stuff !
Hey Palle & Rikster, It was great ck'g out all of the pics of the 41 with you both,Wow,What a piece of History! Jack's a great guy and I'm glad that he 's still with us to see this deal go down, Hope that you guys make it out again soon, Be safe with the 20hr flight home and remember that you're always welcome here @ the Broiler.
Unbelievable! What an epic adventure. You know a car is in good hands when the new owner goes to lengths no previous owner has ever gone for the sake of the car. Truly ********. AND to talk to Jim Street? Amazing!
I remember seeing that sign at the Roadster Round-up in Visalia in the 70's, I was 9 or 10 years old. That was the coolest car event ever growing up here in Visalia, California hosted by the Valley Roadsters. They still get together every year in different locations, their were around 90 roadsters here a couple of years ago from Nor&So Cal. Maybe they will be here in 2010, I will have to ask Jeff Black.
What a cool trip to make, and to get to meet the prior owners of that great custom in the flesh! Can't wait to see the book when it is done. Palle, don't slack off about posting progress pics on the THR!
Well... we made it back home. Palle is back in Denmark, and I got back late last night in Holland.... still tired this morning.. My body has no idea how late it is now. Anyway... more photos etc will follow as soon as I have downloaded my stuff later today/tomorrow... What a fantastic trip it was... Thanks Palle!
