Termites and Bowties- Early Chevy Group

    If directed at mine...Thanks! My only concern is that I may have it set up too low in the front - about 2" to where the apron on the fenders come together. I picked up a real nice set of original bumpers for $150 at Charlotte's Autofair...I may end up running the front tucked tight to take the brunt of speed bumps. I also will probably use 16" rims and a decent side wall to pick it up a little (14" on it now).
     
  3. Yes yours. Speed bumps are a problem for me 2. I have 3 1/2 " under the MII. Don't dare go lower. Have hit 1 speed bump that was not painted and no damage but scared the s--t outa me.
    I wonder if the blacked out grille makes it look mean

    Yep. It's heading in the right direction, and definately has a gangsta lean to it. glad to see you got it home. It'll make a good story when finished.

    The blacked out grille probably helps, but it is also built to have the look: Lowered substantially because of the front frame stub. From the firewall forward it's a '38 Dodge frame, which sweeps up vs. being straight like a regular Chevy frame. It allows the front suspension (narrowed Jag) to tuck up, lowering the car significantly. The top is also chopped heavier in the front, giving the an aggressive look.

    A good before comparison: BigDic's post #53 (2nd pic) is a '34 Town Sedan as well, and the Olds of Norby48's post #23 is extremely similar (extra steel from the fenders to the trunk).

    Plans for it is black with traditional flames, and bright red interior...in fact, I've been trying to find a steering wheel like yours in red for a decent price!

    I was ROLLING through the mountains of WV in my old '70 C10....hitting 100+ going down hill so I had enough umph to reach the top of the next mountain while pulling it and a heavy trailer.
    I blew a radiator hose and had to pull over to let it cool off (I fortunately knew it was bad and had a replacement - just hadn't installed it). While waiting for it to cool off, I walked around the trailer....

    ...The body had slid back 2+ feet!!!!!!!!!!!! Had that hose not blown, the body would have been a mile down some ravine in WV or strewn across Rt 19 for a mile!

    YEAH. You got lucky. Would 33 chevy master headlight stands work on your 34? If so I got 2 pair.

  11. I was looking to build a fenderless car before I picked up this '29 but the fenders are in really good shape (not perfect by any means) so I will probably use them. I want it to be an all weather car anyway. (I will be leaving the hood intact) Did you have any length issues installing the smallblock? I haven't measured yet but am assuming the 6 is longer.

    I would suggest buy an axle from a 48-54 chev pickup, it will bolt right on, I would use a 62-69 chev pickup rear end, both are 6 lug, and hydraulic, both will fit with very little modification. 17's will fill up the wheel well better, as 15's don't do a very good job, unless you have tall sidewalls. Whatever on the motor tranny combo, but I have one of each (28 full fendered six with a split manifold/ 30 no fenders-small block, and the 28 is soon going to get a small block, because the power just isn't there. I plan on doing exactly what I have told you with the suspension once the motor swap takes place, because it is what I did on my 30 and it worked great. I am still leaving it full fendered, but going to run the disc wheels. Here are a couple of pics.[​IMG]

    Still working on the 32 2dr, the whole real job, and family stuff has slowed production, but I see a few peaks of time coming this winter...... Which reminds me, Things to do today......Get to home depot and buy a heater for the shop.

    Hopefully not stepping on any toes, but I figured a Buick is almost a Chevy - atleast it's in the GM family - and it's got plenty of termite food!

    I picked up a '23 Buick Coupe for a street rod project (chopped, channelled, fenderless, nailhead, quick change rear). I have all the tins which are remarkably straight, but the wood is gone - soon to be replaces with steel. Looking for some pictures/advice from someone who's done it before on fabricating door jambs and a roof. I've got my own ideas, but thought others might have some good insights. I've got pretty decent fabricating skills and access to pretty much any metalworking equipment that might be needed.

    Been getting a few slams in on the 32 of mine. Put the TBI 350/700r4 in there and that put the Fat Man Fab IFS right about where I wanted it. Now, about that rear? The car's, not mine... :D

    I posted my '34 Chevy Master Town Sedan on post #304 here. I finally got a scanner and scanned some pics from when I first brought home my travesty. I've definitely brought it a long way!

  23. Here's mine, a 33 Chevy Cabriolet. Bought the body in Oregon and the frame in Massachusetts. Brought it back here to New Hampshire. Gives me something to do on the weekends!

  24. Hey guys- could use your help!

    I need to break down a '28 rear axle this weekend to get it home and need to remove the torque tube/shaft. Do I need any special tools to pull the axle shafts out so I can get the diff housing out of the pumpkin?

    Dang. I never have broken one down that far. I have a 29 chevy rear axle setup in my garage at this time. Good luck with your project;)

    Kool I like project updates, beings I haven't done much on my own project lately I'm really needing a KICK START. Do ya need stock 29 chevy front shocks?
     
  30. Hmmm. if they're anything like'28 front shocks, I could use a set of Lovejoys!
