    Hello,

I thought that I would share some pics of my new '30 Coupe. I sold one my first roadster and bought this new A. It's an older restoration and its mostly stock. The only exception being the engine. It's a "C" engine from a '34 Ford that was originally a taxi cab in Portland. The first pic is of the gentleman that I bought it from. He has owned this car for the last 35 years and has even driven it to Alaska. The car runs and drives great.

As for my plans... It is my new daily driver. My dad and I drove it to a friend's house today. Approx. 80 miles round trip, mostly on I-5, and it performed flawlessly. Cruised at about 60mph most of the way. This is my first experience with flathead fours, mechanical brakes, etc. So, I have alot to learn. Eventually, I would like to head in the direction of Chris' coupe and Elrod's coupe.

    Here's the pics:

Great coupe! It should be sweet if you follow the theme of Chris's coupe. Keep posting and have plenty of pics.

That is the one from Craigslist. I bought it out of Eureka, Ca.

Here is my first progress shots. I have taken off the stock 19" wheels and replaced them with the wheels off of my roadster (17" rears and 16" fronts) I then took off all of the bumpers, spare tire, luggage rack, stone guard, etc. I got rid of the HUGE stock muffler and replaced it with a tiny home-built glass pack. Here's some pics from this afternoon.

I've got a set of '40 Ford steelies that are going to go on the roadster. It's in pieces at the moment, so I still have to decide on what tires to run. It's pretty cool having people that keep an eye on what I'm up to.

    Thanks,
    Mitch

Love it! Can't wait to see the progress. Did you tell the former owner that you were rodding the car? :)

  24. New model A is right, what a cream puff coupe. Nice shot of the previous owners, look like nice folks. 60 mph and mechanical brakes requires a lotta lookin ahead for a stop!! ~Sololobo~

It's funny that you should mention it. I recieved a subscription to a model A restoration magazine from him yesterday. We did talk about hot rodding it..... at least I thought we did.

That's not kidding. The brakes have been well maintained and do work decently. But, juice brakes are on the list. I just don't care for the mechanicals.

As for my progress. Today, I decided to lower the front a little. I reversed the front spring and removed a couple of springs. This is my first experience reversing a spring. I used the Tech Archive and found all the information I needed on a post by Loudpedal. It went quite well and went just as I had hoped that it would. The front end is noticeably lower and the ride was not really comprimised. The only downside is that the houdaille shocks won't work without modification (the arms will hit the inner fender). Anyways, here are the pics.

Looks much better with the extra "stuff" stripped off of it.
