Went grocery shopping with Donna today and ended up at the magazine rack (where else?).
Seems there's a new mag out called SRP...Street Rodder Premium....premier issue.
Sure looks like someone is trying to go head-to-head with The Rodders Journal...but came up short.
The mag was done nicely, but was trying too hard to be all things to everyone IMO.
It was chock full of billet street rods and at the same time it has several articles on the old stuff...speed equipment, old pictures, etc.
...think I'll hold on to my $7.99....your mileage may vary.

I've seen the ads for it for months and have been looking forward to seeing it - I don't have too high of hopes though - your assessment is what I expected to see.

    The name is dumb.

That said, I'll probably pick up an issue when I find one to give it a closer look.

Thanks. One more question,is it printed on good quality paper like TRJ? Its one of the many reasons I love TRJ.

Why would you buy that? It doesn't say Hot Rodder Premium. Of course it's going to have billet in it. Silly.:D

Does any body know if Automobile Quarterly is still being Published? I've often thought that Rodders Journal used that as a business model.

I saw a copy of the Surfers Journal a couple of years back ... I'd say TRJ used it more as their template ... I was disappointed to see that it is a duplicate design-wise. Inspiration is one thing ... but ...

It's not the same quality paper as TRJ, but it's better than most magazine paper.

Comparable to the ads in TRJ. I think this might be a work in progress, I'll save my judjement for a later date . It does look like it has potential.

As of 12 November their web site is up so I would say yes.

  19. Had a chance to flip through it while waiting for the wife's script to get filled. I'd say a more appropriate title would be Gold Chainer Delux. Flopped it back on the rack.

I saw and bought it at Borders this past week. There is enough interesting stuff in it to bring it home. If heven forbid your eyes can't be allowed to see billet you had better not even open it at the magazine rack to look for the article on Speedy Bill's flathead intake collection. And the Speedy Bill haters better shy away from that. It's got better writing and photography than the normal rod rag but will have a long way to go to be in Rodder's Journal's league.

  22. The front cover says it all. But no point getting upset, it's a publication from a big media corporation so no surprises really.

Give that man a a cigar!

They would not produce a magazine like that unless they thought they could sell to advertisers FIRST......then second to the readers.

Every move that company makes is hatched over in committee after committee, wondering how they can "sell it". Meaning sell ads, generate ad revenue. That company is desperately playing catch up, they woke up one morning and found they had lost their thrones.

It had a couple good articles, a pile of ads and left me with a general feeling of 'meh'.

  25. ...I bought one, it's a nice mag, the cars featured are ok, ...good stories on Speedy Bill and Isky.
...I got the first issue cuz when it goes under, this mite be worth somethin.?

  26. I flipped through one at Target... slightly higher quality paper, looks like the same amount of ads, slightly better quality photos than the normal mag... Like I said in the Janet/Nuts post... You can't strive to be #2 and expect to succeed.

If you want a magazine to pattern yourself after, try Wooden Boat.

I've had this page of Flathead intakes on my website since 2007... I snarked them from an ebay auction back then and thought they were cool...

Total miss......(and I expected nothing less.)

  28. not sure why I read this post, I knew how it was going to end. kinda like going to a remake of batman. Batman wins, joker loses, big whoop, another street rodder magazine that i wont buy. haha

  29. Maybe that's why "Janet" bitched out Ryan....he realized that they'll never be able to replicate TRJ

  30. I picked up because of the shiney cover and put it back because I didn't need another parts catalog
