i bought two sears riders for $200 with the intentions of restoring them . one was a 1977 18/6 suburban with a 36" deck in sad shape but ran , and the other was a ff/18 garden tractor with a 50" deck . i gave up on the idea of restoring them and listed them on CL for $700 . an elderly man showed up to look at them and noticed that i had some old cars sitting around and ask if i would be interested in trading for a 49 ford  after taking a quick 20 minute drive to his house i found the 49 to be in bad shape :( . when i turned down his offer he said that he had another one in the back .it turned out to be a 51 . there were vines grown over it , the old blue tarp torn to shreds , boxes piled on top of it along with 12 years or so of tree sap and pine needles . the car had been repainted just before parking the car he said and theres a new wiring harness in the back . it has a flathead V8 with a 3 speed and overdrive and the old doors shut like a brand new car . so after cutting away the vines and a few small trees it now sits in my driveway . the pics show the car out in the field right after getting it home . i gave the right front fender a quick waxing just to see if it would shine .:D

  8. I noticed alot of people seem to trade cars for lawn mowers over in the US.
By lawn mowers, You mean tractors, right?
Not the push lawn mowers? haha.
    Anyways, Nice looking car.

no , not a push mower , but a ridding mower . the bigger of the two could be considered a small tractor due to it having a three point set up for category 0 implements .

    Great deal.
    What are you plans?
Hopefully you will be able to get it running and drive the wheels off of it.

It is great when this works out for both partys, thank God you are rescuing that sweet little 51. I love the 51's, such a beautiful grille, and that looks like a super combo, overdrive rules, great score. Thanx for sharing your good fortune. ~Sololobo~

If he likes dead lawn tractors I have two you can trade him for the other car. Picking them up might cost you though.

the sears suburban , yes , but the ff/18 according to a yahoo group was only produced from the spring of 81 to the winter of 82 making parts extremely hard to come by .

well i got the car polished today . the old paint is in need of alot more buffing , but its going to be good enough for a driver . the door panels and front seat were covered with filth , but they came out real nice . i'll be working on cleaning the rear seat tomorrow . i'm also going to try and fire the old flathead tomorrow . i bought a resistor today to go between the 12 volt battery and the coil so i wont fry the points .

here are some updated pics .
