Started going to the supermodified races at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto in the 50's. Got the drag racing bug in the mid 60's with with a friend who raced an F/S 1963 Impala (Park Lane Motors car out of Sarnia, Ontario with a Diamond Race Engine) and then 23T B/A car that was originally owned by Scott Wilson and Roger Miller of London, Ontario. Love the old time sprint car and supermodified threads, always like to know the history. Spend lots of time following the supermodifieds and enjoy going to the races at Oswego Speedway in New York. Currently have an 03 Z06 but I hope no one will hold that against me!! Thanks for sharing your stories and pictures. Great site. Offset
Welcome aboard Offset! Any Sarnia memories of Tom Craig, Bob Burch and Ron Hewitt who were also part of the Park Lane crowd? If so, please feel free to join-in on the conversation over at the Junior Stock thread. We'd love to hear from ya. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201085&highlight=junior+stock Also, is this the B/Altered 23 T you were referring to?
That is the altered that my friend Brooke DeShaw owned. It really was a beautiful car and it is the first car I can recall that had an enclosed trailer custom built for it. It was sponsored by Performance Improvements in Toronto and he raced it out of the Roadmates Clubhouse in Mississauga. Brooke often travelled with Bruce Wilkes who raced a B/SR Model A Ford that I understand he still owns. I heard that the 23T is still around in street rod livery somewhere in Northern Ontario. The 55 sedan delivery was I think owned at one time by Toronto resident Cal Pon (sp?) and painted a great shade of red. I have not seen that car for a very long time. I have some photos that I will post once I figure out just how to do that. Thanks very much for sharing yours.
Great Stuff!! Looking forward to seeing those photos Big Time. That 55 was a favorite of mine. I used to watch it run at Grand Bend. If you need a hand posting the photos, let me know. Thanks a bunch; Colesy
