i have numerous 500 cad i have a 39 chev 2 door wondering how to put 2 500's in line running both of them .use a fluid coupler between motors 400 trans 1000 cu. inches of motors. how to hook motors would be the big problem acustom frame to hold the wgt. any ideas. i have most of running gear already have the car. ideas? thanks robertbandit

  2. Just couple the cranks together tail to snout. No need for a fluid coupler.

I guess you could put a clutch between them if you didn't want to start them both at the same time.

You are planning to sit in the trunk? An in and out box might be a more viable solution for tranny. You really shouldn't need a tranny with that much motor.

Exactly as Porknbeaner said, a couple of sprockets and a double chain setup. And for ease of starting try firing the engines at 45 degrees apart or even 90 degree whatever works best. Why try and re-invent the wheel when it is a very simple setup.

There is a fellow who has hooked 2 500" Caddy motors together in a Rail job,
Basically he makes exhibition passes with it, smoking an old set of slicks about 2/3 of the way down the track. It is actually quite a piece of work (sic).
I guess he's having fun if nothing else!
Maybe you could go the Hurst Hairy Olds route with 2 Eldorado trans axles 1 in the front and 1 in the back, now that would be different!

Just your everyday coupler used in T/F cars...... simple, effective.

Ive seen it done in the old days with a chain coupler, both cranks have a sprocket on them and a piece of wide chain goes around both of them

It's waste of time and one caddy 500............just because something can be done doesn't mean it SHOULD be done...........

You need to get in touch with a guy who does tractor or truck pulls, I've seen as many as 4 on those. I bet a 5 minute conversation with him would teach you a shit load of tricks in this field.

Paul Latter of San Jose, California has a streamliner with two 500 Cads, turbocharger in it. Paul made two very long stainless exhaust manifolds and two long valve covers to make it kind of look like a V16. It runs pretty good but Paul doesn't really campaign it.

thanks for info paul latter is next. i am kicking it around, ithought you might be able to put together and be able to drive it, put both motors out in front of firewall leave the body alone it would just have 2 engines, would be interesting. fantastic fantasy. thanks robertbandit

  18. Look up Jamie Frankland on the net. He used Lovejoy connectors on his double engine digger.
