which set of finned aluminum weiand valve covers is older? the simple ones that have the basic WEIAND letters? or the set that has the star and "SAY WHY AND"? which would be more correct in late fifties/very early sixties kustom rod? thanks

I've got a set of arched-script Edelbrocks. Wanna trade? The Weiands would match my DragStar intake.

  4. I would think the ones that have "Say Why And" on them. I think they used that early on then dropped it.

I once had a pair of '55-early '59 sbc Weiand covers that simply had WEIAND in a rectangular block in the center, and they came from an engine that was supposedly put together in 1960. On the other hand, my Weiand WCV 327 dual quad intake is from the mid '60s and has the "Say Why-And" cast on it.

If you look at any of the early manufactures the Block letters with almost always be earlier. Whether is be Sharp, Edelbrock and in this case Weiand. The block letters were easier to cast in the companies infancies and so most of them used stock letterfaces. Once the castings got better they were able to switch over to script type.

In the case of Weiand, they originate with a skinny block type font and by the early 60's they have switched over to a squashed version and added the "say why and" tag line. They used it until the later 60's I believe when they revamped everything and went for a new look.

The only set of early Weiand SBC valve covers I've seen are on Bass' '29 roadster and Kiwi Kev has a set. I'd love to find a set to match my WCFB intake but I could only find the early Offys.

These are not Chevy. They were made 3 years before the 265 came out. I think the slogan was added much later.

Well seeing how I've never seen Weiand VC's (early ones) up for sale ever I'd say they are going to be kind of expensive. Early Weiand stuff always seems to be a bit more. I seen a 4 pot fuel block hit $300+ a couple months ago when an Edelbrock can't get $150. That's just how it is I guess.

I'd like a set of Weiand VC's to match my WCFD 4x2 intake as well but I can't get caught up in everything matching because I can't control when someone will sell them so I am sticking with my old set of Offys and if I ever were to get crazy I'd pick up a set of the new Hildebrandts because they're cool to.

Yeah, they've been on there for about a year....he needs to give up. I've always regretted selling my stagger bolt WEIAND covers in '93 when I was out of work for four months. Then, they brought a staggering $75.00!

There was a set of staggered bolt SBC Offy covers on "that site" the other day that ended at $76. Wish I hadn't let them slip past me.

My favorite fuel block I got two for my 6-2 set up for my nailhead found my first one on epay for $125 posted a want add on here for another one took almost a year to find the second one but Dickster27 sold me one for $45 thanks Dickster27

My dad is looking for a two outlet if anyone has one for sale PM me thanks

there is a guy on epay that is selling what he calls nos one's but I know for a fact that they are repops for less then a $100. All the original one's I have seen only have 2 holes drilled in them his have all four holes drilled

  23. Here is a pic of mine. I have had 2 pair and if you look at the bolt down hole on this one you will see that it is at the lip like most valve covers. The other pair I had, also block letters, had the hole half way up the side of the cover like you see in Loui's pic earlier in this thread. Weiand block letter SBC covers are all staggered hole.

I really like the "say why-and" version, it would go great with my matching high rise intake. Why dont they reproduce any of the old stuff? Do they not care or is there some legal reason?

ANd not only are those cool VC's and of course I love the intake since that's the one I'm running but the headers and dizzy are dreamy too. Nice looking motor.

What could a guy expect to pay for a set of these? I think a set would go great with my intake, but I would imagine that they are going to cost me something ridiculous.

I'd assume anything from $350-500 for a set since I've never seen them for sale anywhere.

i wanted a set to match my intake as well but in the end I'm not sure I like when everything matches or when cars are built with the rarest of rare parts. It's almost like tag whoring with clothes and shit. But now if you have a set or two or if you can snag them for a song then that's when they are going to really look great. But if you have to drop half a grand on a set of non functional fluff then well, you have way more money then I do hahah!!!

  30. Sorry for the crappy pic, too lazy to search for a better one. You will just have to imagine the block letters....
