So this might seem like a dumb question to some, but how do you park a car with no brakes on a sloped driveway (relatively steep). Or is this just something that's more dangerous than it's worth. The reason I ask, is the mail lady told my wife today that it needed to be moved off the street in the next few days or she'd phone it in. Sucks, as she never said anything the six months my truck was parked there, but I also don't have tags of any sort on this car yet. I could move it into the garage with some manuevering but I'd rather put it in the driveway. Long explanation but thanks in advance!

As a retired mailman,I can relate to her if you have a curbside mailbox being blocked by a non running vehicle.If so,just move it,six months is long enough to put up with that! IF your box is not on the street,screw her,it ain't her business.

Or, refer to your Driver's Ed. Manual. When parallel parking, and the front of the car is going uphill, turn the wheels away from the curb so it can't roll into the street. If it's pointing downhill, turn the wheels toward the curb. Generally, I try to find something immobile such as a building or fence for the car to "rest" against.
chock up the wheels! put it in your driveway!! do you really want to lose your truck? or pay for the registration, then you can leave it on the street! my shoebox is not running and i didnt non op it! i figured it would work better for me, its only a few bucks a year, im glad i did! my across the street neighbor called the city on my saying my car was a nuisance, trash crap car. so they came out to investigate and brought a tow truck. i didnt have the tag on the car but the plate was, when they were trying to load it up i stopped them and asked why? they said it was not registered and it had no insurance! i asked if they ran the plate and they said no, so i called the cops! they came out and made them take it off the tow truck, then i ripped the city investigator and my neighbor a new asshole! my car was registered and insured so they couldnt do dick!!!! im soo glad i kept it paid up in full! it saved my ass that day! now i have a garage so i dont have that problem. i say just keep it in the drive way or keep it on the system? you will be glad in the long run! what year is your truck? cant be that much to keep the papers current?
Does it still have an emergency brake on it?,if so put in the driveway chock the wheels and set the brake,if you really want be extreme jack up the rear tighten the brakes down tight as you can and chock the wheels.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I live on a dead end street. The car I just bought (47 olds) hasn't been registered in god knows how long and I just bought it Saturday. The car is parked at the end of the street in the middle so my neighbors can get in and out of their driveways. There's no where without a mailbox in front of my house to park. I've talked to the neighbors and they don't mind it. I had a truck that was registered parked there but traded it for the car on Saturday. The car doesn't block mailboxes, but she's making a stink anyway. The point of all this is it safe to park in the driveway without brakes holding it? By "chock" I'm assuming you're talking about triangular blocks of wood blocking the wheels? Thanks for the info guys and by the way, the car currently has a flat a blocks of wood in front/ in back of the wheels that keep it from moving on a flat surface.
Get it off the street and make everybody happy. I'm really supprised that the Cops haven't been beating on your door by now?? And to really keep it from moving on a sloped driveway, you might think of anchoring her down by running no more than a bicycle cable lock though the slots in it's wheels over to the frame or whatever. Just make sure that you have cinched her up so the cable is tight, holding her solid. pdq67 PS., oh and btw, leave an evelope in your mailbox come the holidays with a little something in it for your mail person. Be it a pint of good whiskey or an envelope with a $5 spot in it or whatever for good cheer.

Get it off the street before it gets towed. No plates, no tags,..... noone to write a ticket to. Parking enforcement/patrol wont care and dont have time to chase you down to make it easier on you to "just move it". They will tow it and when you call in to report it missing/stolen they will tell you which yard to go to. Then most of the time you have to get a release form from that city ( $168 in my town) to take to the tow yard and then pay them their fees. Tow companies will dick you around on fees too for moving that car. Cost goes up if they have to use a jack or anything else. It could easily cost you a couple hundred bucks NOT TO MENTION the piece of your ass DMV is gonna get. And you wont get the release from the City until DMV is caught up. For that money I would park it in the garage, akward or not. I would park it in a neighbrs driveway with their permission. I would chain it to the front door so it didnt roll away. I would chock it. I would take the tires off. Get it off the street. And tell your postal lady to screw off.
Steep driveway asking for trouble in my opinion ,Blocks could move ,Jacking car up and blocking ,Still could be dangerous ,Id buy the mail lady some expensive flowers and smooth talk her............
I don't know about other states, but in Boise, Idaho, you can only legally park a registered, insured vehicle for 48 hours on the street in front of your own house. More than 1 visible non-running vehicle is not permitted on your property (unless commercial). I had to give up 2 vehicles & now I live in a better neighborhood, 4 car garage & 6' fence around my back yard. Also, if you ever leave a vehicle along a highway, tires must be off pavement or it can be towed right away. Mail carriers are federal agents & have right of way over police, fire & ambulance, they just rarely use it. The system sucks.
i was told because of ww1, mail carriers delivered telegrams of a fallen soldiers, i dont know if this is true or not?

Truth be known you probably have it right in her turn around spot. But as the other guys said, parking a non running non tagged car on public streets is asking for trouble these days. I'm like a couple of the others in that if the car has to sit on the street or can be seen from the street put tags on it. A big shiny new plate and current registration to go with it trumps a lot of nonsense that you otherwise have to put up with. Years ago I moved one non running car around my yard at least once a week for a year just so that it didn't look like it was just sitting there. The old biddies who rode around town in their new Caddilac at least one evening to look for things to make notes on and bitch to the city manager about finally gave up on that one. Every time I mowed the car moved to another spot in the yard.
Park it at the top of your driveway perpendicular to the driveway & chock the wheels good. It can't roll sideways. Bobbyd
i saw your photo of the car and wondered how long you had it parked there.. I bet the flat tires that are on it now are a give away.. I would put it on your sloped drive.. with a block under the wheel.. and would do so in such a way that it looked like it could move.. nothing worse than johnny law visiting to see what your up to.
if it has no motor or trans and is not registered sitting at the end of your street? arent you afraid of someone stealing it? put that thing in your driveway man. not rocket science. find anything to keep the wheels from rolling.
Cable or chain it to something solid. then get a car cover. If you don't have anything to chain it to get a couple of those screw in deal the utility companies use for guy wires. Think they are called ground screws.
