I know what you mean...mismatching is no big deal. Im not reallyworried about it. But matching is always cool. My ebrocks look just as cool. But if anyone has a set of weiands I would be willing to trade. Mine are perfect! Straight across bolts... why are those common cal customs so expensive? A few years ago I would see em all day long at the swap meets for about 30 or less. I always considered em as a poormans finned val e covers. I would never have a set on my car. Would rather have a set of but up anything than those cal customs.
After I posted I figured that I had that backwards. But it brought out good info and if looking dumb to get good info is all it takes then I'm a freakin clown and lovin' it. Like the Tri-Ys on that mill are they Doug Thorley's?
the stuff is still out there,Ive gotten a set of the block letter Weiands and an original set of Hildebrandts for less than 100 bucks a pair recently. This aluminum stuff can be addicting
Did someone say weiand?? The stuff is out there, but it's not easy to find! I got thing for weiand stuff. I ran it on the mopar mill in my '34 pickup and the FE in my old T-bird.
Same here, I would like a set just to have them but I am partial to chromed Chevrolet script covers myself.
Yeah I love the idea of the Weiand VC and while I am a Weiand whore I can't say that those VC's would look best on my engine. They're not nearly as pretty as Hildebrandts or even the Offy's that I have. Shit I might even like Corvettes better but the lure of having them is still there and I might change my tune if someone can show me a polished set ha! I could be just saying that to ease my own heart because I'm stuck with these Offys and not a cool set of Weiands.
These are the ones i just bought. I really like the ones with the star and "say why-and". I dont know what year these are from.
I'm really kicking myself in the ass for getting rid of those Cheater heads now!!!! I could use those things now that I have that other coupe in the garage!!! Damn it! Guess more Offy garbage!
These are more like 1980's versions. The "say why and' are early to late 60's items I think. They would be just as rare as the block letters I think. Most of the time when they have the oil filler holes and breather etc on them they are going to be a newer piece. The old stuff had separate filler necks which is why they look so good. Nothing cluttering the valve cover.
i have kiwikev's "second" set of block letters. it took some sweet-talking, a couple of sets of other valve covers and a small pile of cash IIRC to get them from him! thanks kev! they are NFS, the only way i'd let them go is for a set of say why-and covers, which i am still looking for. i know a few hambers out there have them hanging on their walls, but so far nobody has needed help with their mortgage payment bad enough. as kiwikev said, mine have taller bosses for the bolt holes, i assume a later revision to the original pattern making mine "late" block letters for those totally anal about correct dating of stuff.
I'm gonna have valve cover envy pretty quick here... Why-oh-why do I have to have this affliction? Do you know how much money I would have if I wasn't into hot rods? I knew I should have taken up hard drugs, much cheaper in the long run haha.
Hahahah!!!! Seriously. It's gotten so bad because of looking at places like Kiwi Kev's I actually think building motors with cool speed parts on them and not have any other place or project to put them beside in the garage is NORMAL!!! I find myself looking for Olds Rocket speed parts and shit on eBuy and here on the HAMB....but I have no intentions on putting one in a car!!! I just want it all!! Hahaha!!!
But then my wallet reminds me that I cannot be a KiwiKev. I can only be JJ and after some heavy breathing and deep self reflection I'm ok with that. I'm stoked about my shitty OFFY VC's!!!
I figured mine weren't old....guys mind if I still hang around?lol. Having a nice built motor with lots of goodies on hand is always a good thing.
I have friends like that too, one day I hope to have a garage packed full of cool shit and only one car hahaha.
I don't know why I'm so far ahead of myself right now, as I still have to find a shop I trust to do the machine work on my 265...the guy we usually go to packed up and left.
It's the fluff that get's you excited about the rest. I mean if I didn't see a couple choice engines with my favorite speed parts on top I wouldn't have been that excited about my 265 at all. Looking back at all those old magazine and finding some of the parts I wanted to run was the best part. I mean getting a 097 Duntov cam was cool but I didn't open the box. I just shipped it along to my builder.....but man when that Weiand intake came or the VC's....well I made sweet love to them. Weiand has some cool shit for sure. I think we should start a Weiand Social club for all the cool shit they had hahah!!! More fluff!
A year or so ago someone posted scans of a 52 Weiand catalog. No SBC stuff but it did show my Studebaker/Olds VCs I did a quick search but couldn't find it. I think I saved it to my old computer if there is any interest.
Kinda o/t for this thread, but does anyone know if Weiand made "say-why-and" log valve covers for a big-block Chev? I have seen the later ones with the block letters in a big W but want something a bit older.
I doubt it. Big blocks (besides the 348 and 409 which are not the typical BB) were coming out in '66 and started getting more momentum towards the later 60's when Weiand was finishing up the "Say Why And" moniker. Big block is a tough engine to make it look old. It's just to damn identifiable. I would think Cal Custom would have something in the finned VC for ya though.
Well, you never know. I already have a "say-why-and" dual quad intake, so it's not out of the question that they did matching valve covers. BTW, I understand it won't ever look older than 65/66 and I don't want it to. But I would like to use the earlier aftermarket pieces where possible. Cal-custom do make some nice looking valve covers which I am running, but they are pretty common, hence the request.
Hmmm, a big block "Say Why And" intake awesome! I had a NOS Cad V8 unit but sold it recently. I guess if you've got the intake the VC's are definitely possible. They might be hard to find but if you did they probably would be awesome. In fact I bet you'd never see another set in person...maybe. I'll keep my eye open for them.
