As you can tell I'm a newb here and am hoping to get a bit of help from the vetrans or just someone who can give some input. I just bought myself a 52 Ford F1 which has a 350 Chevy engine in it, after many searches on the net I'm still a bit sketchy on the year & model of my engine??? I think that with the #'s I got so far the engine seems to from a corvette 1968-78 but I'm not too sure . The #'s on the front engine pad are 141635821 and K11 27 CMR. The # on the bellhousing is 3970010 K10. Maybe I missed something so any help is appreciated.
The block casting number should be on the back of the block towards the firewall on the drivers side. That number will tell you the year. For example the number on my block is 3970010 making it a 1969-79, 350 sbc, 2 or 4 bolt main, car, truck or Vette block. Drop the pan if you want to know whether it's a 2 or 4 bolt.
The numbers on the front pad are the vin. Those numbers will give you more specifics about the block. I'm sure someone will know more!
Here ya go: http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-codes/chevy-engine-codes-suffix-3.php Looks like a 350, 145HP w/turbo hydro from 74 or a 350, same HP from a 78 w/man.trans. The rest of the site and links are good and fun info. Enjoy and congrats on your truck. Also, don't worry dude. As a newb here you'll be in for opinions you really don't want or need so just put up with it. It's just "e-smack" and can be lots of fun if you don't take it too personal.
http://www.yearone.com/updatedsinglepages/id_info/gm_engine_id/engineinfo1.html theHighlander beat me to it! There can only be one!!!
Thanks guys & don't worry highlander I don't take anything personal it's fun to hear everyone's opinions & comments good or bad!
Another link to go along with the one Highlander posted is http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php The two of them are the ones a lot of guys use to refer to when figuring out these engines. You have to remember that when a small block Chev engine gets stuffed in anything that isn't a Chev it automatically becomes a "Corvette" engine to a lot of people. Especially the guy selling a F-1 pickup with that engine in it.
No hot rodders are never wrong its the damned gold chainers and their crate motors that have screwed it up for the rest of us go-fast junkies. OK Bowtie I'll see your Ford and raise you any GM that suits your fancy. Lees see an Iron Duke trumps an FE any day.
I am . A majority of the people usually are, take a look at your pres . Who cares what it was, make it what you want and enjoy it .
the last time I said that one of this sites monitors said something rude about my pie hole and threatened to ban me
iam not saying anybody is wrong. I like em all . But , i do believe a chevy in a chevy , a ford in a ford , mopar in a mopar etc...etc...etc my $.02
Thanks for the link... The guy I bought my truck from was actually really honest & never said it was a "vette" engine he just said it was a 350 plain as day, I got that from the net when I searched the #'s. I'm just really happy with it and being my first "project" I hope my son (who's 10) & I will enjoy it together for a long time!
Hey 'thunder, I got the same motor on a cart waitin for installation. It was in SWB 1/2 ton Chevy PU. Can't recall detais on mine but the truck ran real good. Puttin in a 61 Belair, adding a 3X2 and 700R4. I was gonna put a Windsor motor in but...
Funny you say that Highlander, they guy I got my truck from said he pulled the engine from a 1/2 ton chevy p/u but didn't know the history from it so that's why I have no info for it. I just want to know the specifics to order the right parts for it, need a few minor things.
