Continued leading the passenger side today. Moved from the trunk area towards the front, halfway up the c-pillar and all along the bottom of the small window, getting rid of the belt line. Getting there.....but it sure takes a long time if you want to get it close to perfect.

All right, this isn't fair. How come guys like you can play with your Plymouths all day doing awesome work, and guys like me have to work and dream!

I hope to "touch" my Plymouth this weekend.

    Great Job!!! Keep posting results.

Thanks Coupe Crazy! I TOO have to work (and dream) like the most of us. It's just that I have a couple of weeks holiday at the moment and want to prevent this project taking too long. I'm not in a rush, but enjoy the progress and learning experience. Don't want this build to become a 5 year project, so I'm trying to spend as much time as possible working on the car.

Hey farmer, I'll be in Holland on business next week. I might have to stop over and check out this awesome build in person. I bought a 40 Plymouth yesterday so seeing yours in person would be inspirational, and probably make me cream my pants.

At least you got plenty of time now to finish her. Can't wait for the final result. I'm sure it will be great! Keep us posted. If I can help you in any way, let me know. Good luck on the final stretch. (slightly jealous here:))

I do have what looks to be an original steering wheel. It was at least attached to the original steering column. It does need some work though. Let me know if this will help you.

Considering I was out of lead today, I thought I'd start work on the top part of the cowl. Initial idea was to only remove the old air intake, but along the way I decided to also remove the old wiper and antenna holes. After careful cutting I made a template for each of the holes out of thick cardboard. The wipers will be repositioned later and I have no need for an antenna hole. Next step is to cut the metal using the templates.

I cut out all the metal pieces required using the cardboard templates. A little bending of each piece was required to get the correct shape in order to follow the contour of the cowl. Tacked all the pieces into place and ground down the welds. Will remove the dash next week so I have better access from below and do the final shaping and welding. Pretty happy with the progress today!

Thanks wolfhound423. It's the shape of these cars I fell in love with. In combination with a chopped top and a Hemi, I thought it would be a good match.

You have come so far....1 little thing to discuss, I see cardboard on the roof to protect it from your tools, as you use the surface for easy access.
That is one habit I would break, quickly!
All tools have some degree of oil or grease impregnated into the porus metal, also grease or oil on those shop towels.......oil and future paint jobs don't mix as you well know. No matter how careful you are there will be contamination.
Not a lecture, just trying to help:)No tools on the body please.:D

Thank you for your concerns Frankie47. I am aware of the oil issue and paint, but the car will be sandblasted and epoxy coated once again after all the metal work has been completed. After this process, the body will remain clean of dirty towels and tools. On top of this, the shop owner hates it when the tools are on the floor!! Once again, thank you for the heads up.

You bet and Good morning or what ever time it is in land of winter, I just thought I would make sure. You seem to be scooting along even if it doesn't feel like it at times.
I have a 1947 dodge a tad bigger 5 window than yours and a 383 in the shed......Hmmmm, maybe some day!:)

Yep, it never seems to go quick enough for some reason. Patience is the key I think. Would be good if you'd show some pics of your Dodge! And yes, its still morning....in the land of winter.

Started work on the dashboard today, as the ordered lead had not arrived yet. I'm trying to retain the overall shape of the dash but require a flat area in the middle to install the 3 big gauges. Not going to use the glove box. So on either side of the gauges it will be smooth, toying with the idea of bringing back the 3 lines on the fender here.

  24. I wish I had photoshoping skills...I like your idea of incorporating the 3 fender lines into the dash. My only thought on this is since you plan on putting the guages in the middle, you could make the dash symetrical in regards to the area to the right and left of the guages (the rectangular area on the left could be duplicated on the right). This would allow space to put the 3 horizontal bars on each side of the guages.

Of course, having the 3 horizontal bars under the guages would look really good but it doesn't look like you have much room to play with under the guages to put the horizontal bar.

    Just a thought.

Thanks Hivolt5.0! Yes, thats the idea, to bring the 3 fender lines on each side of the gauges. And yes, I'm going to make each side symmetrical. Sorry, I probably wasn't too clear in my description. Your thoughts were mine exactly. Thanks for the input! Eric

Mike, I got the PM. I'll send the steering wheel out to you tomorrow. Unfortunately I have already cut up the shifter linkage to pieces early this year, when it wouldn't come out without some decent force.

    Eric,
I may be able to come up with something Photoshop-wise. What type of gauges do you plan to use?

This is kinda rough but it may be close to what you have in mind. I brought the inside edges of the fender lines vertical and re-contoured the ends of the dash to flow a little better with the outside tips of the fender lines. Couldn't find a decent set of gauges to throw in there. If you'd like some adjustments let me know.

Here's a shot with Hivolt5.0s idea of the bar under the gauges. They had to be moved up a little but it might work.

Great work OahuEli ! This is pretty much the look I'll be going for, perhaps with only a few minor adjustments. Thanks for your time and effort. Eric
