my 50 Hudson PaceMaker coupe at Brown County dragway racing in the Orphan car drags put on by the Indiana Studebaker Driver's club. Running a 308 Hornet flathead six with a McCulloch supercharger...
Self or Williamson? They're some pictures some one sent me and I saved. If you want it deleted I will. Larry T
Watch for it to hit the track again soon. It's currently being updated and will probably run the same type Late Model inline 6 that makes their Comp.Eliminator Altered charge so hard
That's where it all began for my dad. My great-grandfather was a machinist and engine builder from the 1920's until the early '80's. He built Dad a hot little 6-banger for his '50 Chevy street car in the late '50's, and then some more serious engines for Dad's first few rails, until they changed to Chevy V-8's. This is also where I got my start (that's me in the seat): When I was about 5 they would strap me in the dragster for the return road tow with the front end off the ground in a sling from the back of Grandpa's truck (also had a souped-up 6-cylinder). I wish I could find pic's of that - I really thought I was the goods!
quickest time in the 1/8 mile was 9.85 at 88mph... converter is only stalling at 1800rpm, 3.55 rear end gears and 3740lbs with me in it. can't keep converters in it... went through 4 of them in the last two years and no one believe me when they hear about the torque curve being on the downward slide by 2500rpm so I can't get one built loose enough to move the stall up to 3000+ where I want it. the one in there now is suppose to stall at 2800rpm but won't go over 1800rpm, just like all the rest. its been sent back twice now to loosen up but its had no effect at all so I removed the 350 turbo tranny and went back to a dual range 4-speed hydro with a 3400rpm stall to get it down where it needs to be. hope to be in the low 9's and high 8's in the 1/8 mile.
I have the same problem with the 250 six in my 60. I have a th350 and mine wont stall that high either. I'm thinking about putting a stick back in the car and taking the turbo 350 out.
anybody got any picturesof Dick Bertolucci's "the Dolphin"? Pretty sure it was built back in 1954 or 55. that thing was pretty cool
A long time ago, I saw a 6-cylinder Camaro Drag Car that had painted on: "Mean Buzzin' Half-Dozen" and the name has always stuck with me!
Just back from the World Finals in Pomona California. We were down track picking up one of the race cars I was crewing on for Hancock and Lane Racing, when I heard a weird noise, looked up to see this white car, bottom side up, on FIRE, sliding to a halt. The world famous Peter Biondo walked away from the crash to race another day. The engine was a highly modified V-6. Coincidentlly, we flipped the red car (on the left) the next day and totaled it out. These cars looked like they were involved in a destruction derby
