House of Kolor has a couple of good solid reds, one called Kosmos Red and the other is called Blue Blood.
Recently used Torch Red from Sherwin Williams (see my avatar and photo album). It's the nicest red I've ever used, covered great, etc, etc...The pics don't do it justice! It's expensive, but well worth every cent.
If someone were to line up color chips of every red ever formulated your eyes would fall out. You need to figure out what "pops" for you. Are you a fan of "hot" reds? Those would be ones that have a yellow undertone, almost orange.....say Mustang Poppy red from the '60s, less so would be Dodge flame red from the late '90s. Personally I like "clean" (as opposed to "muddy") reds, that have a blue undertone. To me R77 Red from mid '90s Acura NSX is "the best", but others might like Rossa Corsa Red from Ferrari (no, not all Ferraris are the same shade of red). But then, describing a color is nothing like seeing it in person. You should go to a paint jobber and ask to look through their chip decks till you find the one that does it for you..........and don't waste time looking on the web as monitor reproduction isn't reliable. Here's a pic of the Flame Red, and the Acura red side by side. In person the difference was very apparent, in picture........not so much.....
I agree...it's a good idea to have some direction, but I would never settle on a color because of a photo on the computer. You need to see it in person like at a huge car show...where you can see for yourself and then contact the owner for the exact color.
Another suggestion: 1990 Toyota "Super Red" - I've used it on several things in the past. I'm not certain of the actual code, but it's a nice red. As stated above...get some paint chips and go from there. Make certain you see it in natural light, not just the lights at the paint store.
I've done two cars in "Viper" red. Indoors it looks great. Pull it out in the sun and you can see it from space. I've never seen another red "pop" like Viper red. IMHO.
i would have to go with flame red, or porsche guards red.. viper red pops pretty good.. another good looking red is a tractor color.. international/farmall red its a little darker though..
Try "Torch Red" It was an '80's &'90's GM color and if you want red, it's about as red as red can be! Here's a pic of a '34 Ford painted "GM Torch Red". Mart3406 ==========================
Guards red is a great color. Used it many times in the last 25 years. Painted my 70 torino in it. Turns out it's called Dale Jarret red now.
No one's mentioned it yet, but I suppose ....if all else fails, you could always try some "Red Green"!!! Mart3406 ============================
this one is a ppg pure red toner #905 or 605 i think..can't really remember. it is a damn beautiful red in the sunlight. scanned pic makes it look like darker and like ****.
Dupli-Color Ford Red engine enamel... Its very bright and is almost "crayola" red. I don't have anything all red, but thats what the red on this car was painted with. Stands up to heat (heads, block... not headers) too. Adam EDIT: Black was TSC brand BPS (best paint sold), $9 / quart... brushed on!
PPG, Base red #917, sometimes call Scarlet Red, works for me. Straight paint, I used a single stage and buffed out great.
Mate, living in Cali, go to a few car shows and see what pops for YOU. Much better in the flesh than on computer screen. I used to look at every red car every time I stopped at the lights, finally found mine .......MILANO RED 1990s HONDA colour Rod
