a Globe Swift. I've always wanted one. They are the hot rods of aviation; many of them are highly modified.

  3. Globe Swift, nice little plane although a bit under powered with a the stock C-125 Continental. Most now have been converted to a O-360 Lyc. 180HP or IO-360 200HP. This slide was printed backwards, read the name on the cowl. :p

What a tragic day. I forget. Was it bad weather on takeoff that caused the crash?

The kid on the Big Wheel is probably dreaming of someday owning that Vette in the background.I know when i first saw a Vette in the fifties i wanted one.41 years later my dream came true.

  11. The entire 3 min flight. the plane was found just off the end of the runway. Took off into a snow storm with an non instrument rated pilot. I read the story years ago in the AOPA Pilot mag, I feel for all including the pilot but it was his choice (a bad one) to take off. five more hours and it would have been clear.

Priceless satire of the early Universal Frankenstein movies!
Mel Brooks says that "Young Frankenstein" is his personal
favorite of ALL the comedies he's ever made -- which is a bunch!
These YF images are just a TINY sample of a fantastic site
    for fans of Mel OR this movie. You can spend hours there;
just search for "Young Frankenstein" under " fanpop!"
A VERY special thanks to FanPop and to their member, "judesmommy"
    who submitted many YF pix!

As I recall, the reason Waylon was at the airport was that he was one of Buddy's "Crickets" band. Waylon never forgot that stroke of providence, either! It was over for those three guys. Waylon was the one who went on to a full life, a career as one of the Bad Boys of Country, plus a beautiful wife, Jessi Colter (with whom he did two Top-40 duets, BTW).

Never again would Leslie Nielsen be taken seriously as an actor --
but what they hey! He said he had a blast doing comedy, here as
Det. Frank Drebin, "Police Squad," 1982 (of course, leading to the
box-office smash "Naked Gun" movie series). Photo THANKS to
    IMDb, the Internet Movie Database!

Nielsen got his big break as the handsome leading man
opposite Debbie Reynolds' country bumpkin in "Tammy
and the Bachelor," 1957. The movie got off to slow box
office but was quickly re-released following Reynolds'
smash Gold Record of the movie song, "Tammy." With
a touch of '30s-comedy retro-charm, the movie made an
even bigger star of Reynolds, set Nielsen for a long career
in movies and TV and re-energized the career of film vet
Walter Brennan. Walter's role as Tammy's moonshiner
grandpa in "Tammy" may also have influenced his casting
as Amos McCoy in TV's long-running "The Real McCoy's."
Ad THANKS to gono.com (see hundreds of early ads).
