As some of you may have seen I have been toying with the idea of building an early '30s period correct speedster. Yesterday I went out in search of a model T frame, and found it. But look what else followed me home. I didn't look it over all that much yet, and dont even know what year it is yet. I only snatched it up for parts. The rear of the body was cut off and converted into a flatbed, also notice the snowplow frame. Im just glad they didnt to all out doodle-bug on this car. Future plans are cleaning up the rear of the body and making it into a 5 window truck cab, then sourcing a model A pickup box. I have an 8CM Merc' looking for a new home.
Yeah, real hard life indeed. Theres no frame left under this car. The T frame on the trailer next to it is perfect though. Strange. Believe it or not, this car is in good shape for being from NY.
It looks pretty rough alright but I'd bet that someone in your area looks at the photos today and tells him/herself that that's just what they need to combine with what they have to make the coupe they want. But I want to know about this speedster project and what you are going to do with it.
I havent started a build yet, This model A just ended my parts finding phase. Now i have most all the parts i need to get started. The speedster is going to have an all aluminum boat-tailed body, resting on a T frame, with A springs, axles, steering, and drivetrain. I'll start a build thread once i have something to show rather than a pile of parts.
Half of the fun is the hunt! CONGRATS! (Trouble is, once you find something, the disease hits ya. GOOD kind'o disease to have, ain't it? LOL)
That snow plow set up is intertesting. I wonder just how much snow it would have been able to push. First time I have ever seen a set up like that.
No Kidding! What were they thinking when they did this back in 1947? I can't believe they would build something out of necessity and not realize the hot rod potential.
I would have taken it too. The roof looks good and the doors are savable. Good find. A farmer in 1947 was not thinking about "hot rod potential", he was thinking what he could make out of his old model A to save him money.
