When holding amphibious manuevers during Korean war, I witnessed one of these "DUCKS" carrying a 105 Howitzer, sink off the Korean coast because of high waves & swamped with water.

Regarding post #14569, posted by me....I just realized that the content is off topic AND also the date of the happenings is not truly vintage. If this offends anyone, please either report to Ryan OR notify me. I'll delete it. Sorry, but at my age, I'm lucky to remember what was.................uh, huh?

Zoom, I think I heard a while back that the Plainsman wagon was supposed to be THROUGH resto and actually show in 2010. I haven't followed up yet, man. But it was/is too important to just sit, eh?

RE #14569, Zoom is right: This thread has covered the broader range of things with wheels and wings, as well as the whole historical backdrop (wars, musicians, soda pop, amusement parts, dames, etc.) that were hand-in-hand with the cars and trucks we all love. Bring it on, FlatHeadGuy!

Mazooma, thanks for the update on the Plainsman. I'll go check where I heard what I idd and try and pick up the trail there. From what you said, it sounds as if osmebody who had it changed his/her plans. Thanks again.

Now that you mention Pasadena,-----That was the first "Freeway" in the L.A. area, at the North end of L.A. before coming to Pasadena, they built an experimental stretch of concrete highway for 1 mile or so, 2 lanes wide going North, a medium in center, & 2 lanes going South. I think it was just prior to WWII, 1939-1940, everybody wanted to try out the new "Freeway", & when it got so crowded, it was then that the engineers realized how this new roadway was instantly "outdated".
Which began the giant freeway expansion program throughout the entire L.A. area.

How many of you remember all the homes that were bought up & properties to facilitate this giant program?????---Also all around the LAX area???

Interesting, '60 Chrysler Plainsman for Australia, seems to show Chrysler
didn't completely ditch the concept. But they toned it down a bit, eh?

BTW, not to get too OT, but that eBay auction is down now to two hours, and the bids are only up to $64K. Apparently the owner turned down $155K at an RM auction some months back. My heart wouldn't stand that stress. Glad it's HIS car! LOL

I could be wrong, but I think Miss Washington there on the right is Margret
Gorman who would have gone on to become the first "Miss America." Maybe
because of her petite stature and Mary Pickford loooks?
