If I were to make a suggestion to the editor, it would be to make the font more bold and larger.
I bought it the other day just for the Isky and Smith stories. I read the Isky article, with great difficutly. I'm not even going to attempt the Smith one. The street rodder demographic is still more senior than junior, and damnit, my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, and I don't need to pay a premium price for something I need a magnifying gl*** to read.
That's the end of my rant. OK, except next to rat rods, my least favorite automobile is an over priced trailer queen butique built car. Boring!

I had just picked up a copy this morning. It is fine. Nice multi page layout features on the cars, but they are not on topic for most HAMBers, so I am not surprised in the dislike a****st most posters here.

I did not like the photography. it looked altered/photochopped. Like the Buick seemed like it was photographed in a studio, then a back drop was added for print....or something. It didn't look natural, lighting the treads, etc.

it is nicer than StreetRodder for sure.

The fact that they made a Street Rodder "Premium" means they understand that Regular Street Rodder ****s.

There is no Basic Rodders Journal.

Well said. I bought it and liked it. Of course, I like the high-end stuff. These cars are doing what the top builders always have, whether those builders are named Barris, Roth, ****era, Coddington, Trepanier, etc. They show us what's possible. Hell, there was even a flatty powered car - these guys just aren't happy!

I agree and I find that in some of the Street Rodder features too ~ really irritates me.

Storm King is right on about making the copy readable! This is just an example of poor layout execution....and while picking nits, the text description of the Buick's interior does not match the photos! Nothing a proof reader and a good magazine layout person could not cure...

My first thought was: Big Bully! Leave this niche market to TRJ. Then I said to myself: why? and I answered: money. Excellent writing, excellent photography. I've got the same critique as others; grammer mistakes, editing, text too small...but Hell it seems 'everyone' doesn't do proof reading like they used to. I even see typos and hard to read text (over background images) in my Bible, TRJ. 'S'pose it all boils down to money...but I'll p*** on another 'Big Brother' Source Interlink magazine and spend my money on TRJ.

I guess I've finally kicked the habit. There was a time when a new magazine would mean a rush to the book store to insure that I got issue number 1. They finally broke my spirit and my habit. I don't miss what I see but I long for what they could be. It's sad.

A buddy of mine brought it over yesterday....glanced through it and liked the Isky and old stuff of course. The big expensive stuff does not interest me for several reasons and by the way, why would someone spend $500K+ on a build and put wheels on it that look like they came off of a 1984 boat trailer? Ha!!!!

I will stay with Hot Rod Deluxe and TRJ.

I'm not seeing the comparison to The Rodders Journal... unless of course a person were buying it solely on the quality of the paper. saw it at Borders and spent more time looking at O'l Skool Rods, then bought Rod & Custom.

I just thumbed through it at the store and I totally agree. All the pictures looked almost fuzzy like they were trying to add some type of ambience to them. I p***ed for that reason alone.

It's only the first Issue. With new Mags, like with a new ride, a "shakedown period" will exist. Give it a couple of more Issues before making any harsh judgements.

At least they're trying something new...the "print business" is dying-on-the-vine. Many, Mags, Newspapers, Book Companies, etc., have given way to Internet readers, and are going out of business. So trying something new in this economy & hazardous marketplace really takes a lot of guts.

Give it a few months to get sorted-out, then form a more educated opinion and re-post your thoughts at that time.

I bought it and it was right about what I expected it to be. I'll probably buy it again if there's something in there that interests me.

I picked it up this weekend. I think I got a couple hours of reading and entertainment (I'm a slow reader) out of it. Not sure if I'd buy it again.

I thought it was good, looked at my Dad's copy- Not sure why it's necessary to compare it to TRJ... Curious to see where they go with it-

When I saw the ads, I figured it was a shot at TRJ, but after reading it, I'm not so sure. The editorial direction is clearly different. Other than the flatty powered RPU, I'm not sure that any of the cars featured would be candidates for TRJ, and vice versa. Considering that Street Rodder itself is featuring more 'traditional' type cars month-to-month, maybe this is a vehicle for featuring the more contemporary high-dollar cars in a format that lends itself to a more high quality presentation. Me, I can afford both, and there's room on my bookshelf for both.

Picked it at Barnes & Noble and paged through. I agree with Racewriter but will say it doesn't do much for me. I think Hot Rod Deluxe is my favorite just because of the old race content. When my Street Rodder subscription expires I won't renew anyway.

I agree with some of the others posted here, I wish Rod and Custom would get it together a little more. I still cherish my old issue with Barris's Surf Woodie. That's when it was good.

In the last 2 weeks, I have been taking notice of how many issues of SRP are still on the shelves around here-lots. 8 or 9 at each grocery store I looked at and as many at the Evil Empire.

I hope this doesn't stop SI from trying new ideas. Personally SRP didn't float my boat, I browsed it, but didn't bite at this first issue. That doesn't mean I'm not interested in new content, just not this one yet. As a longtime subscriber to SR (a**** others, including other SI ***les) I don't remember any surveys asking what else I wanted to see, or see more of or less of in their SR ***le.

Come to think of it, I am never surveyed by any of the mags I subscribe to as to what I want to see, and some I have held subscriptions to for over 10 years.

Sad to think the only way to indicate your reader preference to a publisher is by purchasing or not purchasing.

I was really surprised this last issue. Huge article on kinmonts, which I hope doesn't lead to guys getting them on their speedstar coupes. Cool article on east coast rods too and the alexander bros...
