No wonder Studebaker went belly-up. All the other car companys would have beautiful women in sexy clothing to attract people (men) to their cars. And this was Studebakers idea .....

I don't think this has been posted. When I was a kid, these were still
everywhere! I never knew who any of the manufacturers were, though.
I guess I thought they ALL came from the factory with visors. BTW, does
it say Silver Streak on the fender script???

Walter Extra, in Germany, with the first Extra 230. This aicraft was sold to Clint McHenry, Pompano Air Center. In the second photo we repainted it for Clint. PAC become the world's first and largest Extra dealer/distributor. After a brief period of time, the Extra factory developed slightly larger two seaters and went to to become FAA (LBA) certified.

Rusting away near Barstow, 1967. Were bodies like these common back then?

Twin-Rod and Custom used to run a feature called Vintage Tin back then.Lots of current, to that time, shots of bodies, cars, etc. The cleanup squads and scrappers certainly have reduced the amounts. In the fifties and even sixties in rural areas of Michigan old stuff was quite common. Those days are gone now! This particuliar body resembles a 32 Ford five window but it's another make.

  27. If Christmas is game, I'm in, literally in these pictures, receiving a Rathman race car for Christmas that year. Never better!
And the other one is age 1 with my very first "car", a streamliner!

My mother gave both away when I "got too old for them" of course.

A: In a word, YES. The sad thing is that guys at the junkyards
would mostly consider this TOO far gone and just scrap it on
out if they got one like this! One of my best friends helped his
dad run a yard. He lived in the country and had over 20 cars
he'd saved to work with, in way better shape, so he'd just
shake his head and put 'er in the crusher. His brother had a
gas station and kept a fine Deuce 5W. They were car guys,
but back then availability wasn't much of a problem.

yup.....a guy came into the gas station I worked at in 1967 when I was in high school. He knew I liked old cars because my Model A panel was always parked out front. He asked if I wanted his old car he no longer wanted for free. I said sure and my boss let me store it behind the gas station.
It was a '34 five window, boxed frame, Olds rear end...no front end or motor.
I didn't know what to do with it so I gave it to a friend. Then he gave it to some other guy. Nobody seemed to want to keep it. ????
