From the photos it may look like am going backwards, but an offer came up that i just could not refuse. A guy offered me a completely original 36 rolling chassis for $2500. Now when i say original, i mean this frame has never been touched, it is as straight as an arrow, not one cut or weld or hole in the entire frame. the battery box was untouched and still even had the original tire downs for the battery. it came with every single factory nut, bolt and pin (the chassis has never been taken to pieces). it has every original bracket- speedo, fuel line and exhaust etc. it even had the original wiring with the original wire clips!!!!

It came with matching numbers gearbox to frame in perfect condition, perfect bushings etc, and the same goes for all the pedals and steering box. the gas tank is beautiful inside i hardly even need to clean it!!. Both the front and rear ends are covered in a thick layer of grease so nothing is rusty underneath. Original bias-ply tires which are in great condition, the fronts still had the sales stickers on. It was a luxury to buy this frame but now my car will be build on a beautiful foundation.

Don't know what you paid for it, but that is a great exterior. If you have the shop equipment, the repairs won't be expensive, just time consuming. Otherwise, $$$$$$$$. Hopefully, you haven't found any putty in the body parts. Again, love the look.

    THE BRAKES

Now being of Scottish Decent i love a good bargain some would say that is a understatement and would go as far as to call me cheap at times, but anyway..

Of course the gas tank that was in the car was.. well lets just say it was not Ford, it was not even old, it could of even been of European decent.

I was at a swap meet this summer and i found an original 1940 Ford gas tank and filler neck and thought ok that is the closest i am going to get to a 36 tank, i managed to get him to sell it for $75. Now you saw in my last post that i now have a 36 gas tank.

Well last week i put a ad on a local site here selling america car parts, asking if anyone had some 1940-48 front drums to sell (you have to understand that finding some here is next to impossible). I get a call the next day!!!, not only does he have the drums but also the hubs, backing plates and complete brakes. i ask how much, he says 'i hate money, what do you have?'. We end up doing a straight swap for the 1940 tank, meaning i got the whole front brake set up for $75!!! in denmark. Only thing is someone drilled them for chevy wheels, but i can live with that.

He got rid of them because he put disc brakes on his 1940 ford, i love street rod guys!!

Ok so now i am posting in real time, all the other posts where from the last couple of months. A lot happened this weekend the best thing being, i did the engine swap. I swapped a tied, dirty, old broken flathead for a beautiful 1962 chevy 283. some would say crazy, others would say smart.

The only thing missing was the headers and the starter.

The other happenings this weekend was i went to a huge swap meet. 95% of the parts are for european cars and bikes but sometimes you can be lucky, i was!!

First i found an original chevy starter completely rebuild by the owner who happened to be a auto electrician, i had no idea at the time if it was the right one. i have been told i need a three bolt starter to hook up to the Offenhauser adapter, and as far as i can tell after looking around the HAMB it is. Anyone care to tell me if its the right one.

Next I found a set of beautiful original headers for a 283 (i was told). they have brackets for the AC and alternator units which is good for mounting the alternator but the the other side will look ugly! is it stupid to cut it off?????

The last score was my gauge panel. Vintage Smiths gauges, there is nothing wrong with a little Brit in a Yank car. Hey if its good enough for Shelby, its good enough for me, and it was a steal at $55.

Those ram's horn exhaust may give you a problem with steering box clearance. I had to use '56 Chevy exhaust manifolds because they dump out the front. Not saying that it's not going to work but just something to think about.

That's how all my projects start. Taking a car apart is always an adventure. Now you have a fun project and at the end you will have a great car. That thing is cool!!

Are you sticking with those Valve Covers or switching to something else? I like them just for the record. I'm going to start off with a set of Corvette VC's that I have and switch over to Offys when I get my 4x2 intake all dialed in.

no i'm not, i am going to start with some moon polished and hope that one day i can find some sort of rare Named aluminum finned ones. i am not sure what i can get in the straight holed, wiend, halibrand, etc etc

i really wanted the offy's too, but as i have the later 283 i would have to buy the one's with the vent hole and i did not want that.

    BACK TO THE DIRT !

Its funny the things we do for a few simple numbers!!

Earlier in the thread you will see that i had completely stripped, cleaned, and painted my transmission ready for those Lincoln gears (arriving monday!!).

Well when i bought the rolling chassis it came with a tranny and they are matching numbers, so yes i have decided to start all over again. and this f#€ker is really dirty!!!!

    THE 283

The engine is more or less finished other than a few small details, and i love it!! I just have to replace the intake and water-pump gaskets, and some new spark plugs and cables. I can not wait to fire this baby up!!

Next on the list is installing the LINCOLN gears into the transmission, i now have everything i need thanks to Mac at Vanpelts and last night i started to fit all the pieces together ready to put into the box. Its a different beauty compared to the engine, but still beautiful!!
