Though crude by todays standards, these suits were far better than what they served to replace from but a couple of years prior; basically little more than a leather bomber jacket, helmet and goggles.

Fugitive 2 (April 18, 1971), just off the starting line, front wheels still coming to their full height. Unlike classic Wheelstander design likeThe Little Red Wagon, which required the driver to carefully control huge horsepower, Bob's car relied much more on levering weight and controlling the rapid weight transfer. This Wheelstander was extremely quick off the line, charging hard, the wheels gently lifting.

Willie was quite a guy. He was a tile setter who lived near me in Victoria Park (south of L.A in Carson Calif). Although his driving tactics are now looked as radical, they were what you had to do in the early days to get the job done. However, Wild Willie had bigger "snickers" when it came to keeping his foot in it than anybody else. I guess it is why C.J "pappy Hart has his car pictured on his headstone. What great times at the beach

Third car I ever owned, mine was maroon colored,
    I was 17, had a 389 with a turbo hydro, and a 2 barrel,,
Raced it at OCIR with Steve LuVisi,, Steve had a 56 Chevy more door with a corvette 'real' rochester fuel injection, he ran an 11 somethin, the pontiac was embarrassing, needed more carburetor,, hey i said i was 17,,,
Steve LuVisi restores Corvettes now, some of his work was profiled on the show overhaulin,
We were in auto shop class together down in socal back in 70-72

    Awesome pics bucksnort,, thanks

Mike, it always seemed to me that the Blue Hell Vette was one of, if not the first Chevy Funny that I can remember. Is that correct?

Corvette Auto parts vette owned by Don Kirby driven by Larry Faust and Pat Foster and Charlei Wilson' Vicious Vette first driven by Clyde Morgan then Dale Pulde weretwo that were running about the same time. The early vette was squirrly not wanting to go straight but, that was whatmade it fun.
