You're quite welcome! I've been following this thread for awhile and your idea for the dash fits the car well. Looking forward to more progress pics.

Going to work on the car again tomorrow. Haven't decided whether I'll do some more leading or continue with the dash..... choices, choices.....

Got back to doing some more leading today. I nearly finished the concerned area, with probably only an hour or two required to completely finish it off. From there I'll probably continue with the dash and the top of the bulkhead/firewall where some welding is required.

What has amazed me is how much time has gone into the leading so far. I'm probably looking at a total of 40 hours. But enjoyed every minute of it. It sure was a great learning experience!

  6. Are you going to fill the indentation in the door to match the body?

Yes, I'll be filling the top trim line as well, only leaving the trim from the front to the back of the car. Never really understood why the extra belt line was required. Anyway, I'm aiming for a clean look with only some of the trim remaining.

Just a little side track to my build. Went to a hot rod/custom show today, checked out a few cars. Some were nice, some average. Only a few cars were show quality though. Anyway, had a good time with my buddy Stef, who came along for the ride. Here is just a short impression of today. Going to work on my car again tomorrow, after having received some further inspiration.(of how to do it and not how to do it!)

Got back to work on the dash again today. I cut some more off the dash and test fitted the center piece again. My buddy Martin rounded the lower edges for me. Made a small lip on the top and I clamped it into place. Spot welded the top and lower edges. I drew the gauges on it to ensure they are centered and proportional.

Looks good so far.You are going to do the side pieces with beadroller?

Haven't decided if I'm going to beadroll the sides or not. Another option is to use some half steel rods and mount them. Either painted in the dash color or have them chromed. Still thinking about it.....

I cut out some cardboard with the same radius as the lower part of the window, to see whether or not a split window in the back would look good. Considering the front window is also split and the rear a fairly large piece of glass (I can hardly see out of it anyway), a split window may just be the way to go. I'm not trying to be different, I just want it to look good and proportional to the rest of the car. I may just leave it on the car and see if it will grow on me. (or not)

What do you guys think?

  13. IMHO, with the size of your rear side windows the split rear tends to make it too busy looking to me. I'd leave well enough alone if it were me and i can be a real tin butcher myself when need be.

  14. my vote would be no on the rear window split. neat idea and a lot of classic cars have them, but the curves on the top of your car are so nice I just don't see the split accentuating the lines. But again, that's just me.

I agree. I think the window looks perfect as is.

  16. Another vote for one piece.

I personally don't think the rear window is "oval" enough to pull the split look off, to me it would like an afterthought not something that belongs.

Okay man, i think two things ; 1, the window should follow the contour of the roof and shouldn't be flat , and 2, split the windows but only if you fix the contour . it's a sweet lookin ride that has alot of individual design traits that aren't quite the same as ford or chevy body lines and deserves to be customized as such . Split the window , give it it's contour back. Awesome fucking build though , really, really inspiring... thank you for sharing this....

Went back to work on the dash once again. Worked out the shape of the metal.on either side of the clock cluster. Started working out the profile as well. Decided not to beadroll. I'll be using 3 brass strips each side and screw them on from behind. Then finish it off with lead so it will flow into the dash. The whole dash (front side) will be painted and these strips will look as part of it. Final shaping and cutting still needs to be done. I've proceeded to shape the left side of the dash, still needs to be a little more rounded. Hopefully I'll have some time to finish most of it this week. Damn this thing takes long! (but worth it in the end)

And with regards to the rear window, I think I'll leave it as a one piece. Like some of you have stated, it's not oval enough to be split. Thanks for the comments and advise guys! Very much appreciated! Thanks, Eric

I was back at work on the dashboard again. Shaped the right side today, taking a long time to get it just right. Got a sore right arm now from the hammering. I cut out some more of the original dash and did a test fit. (also with "stripes" on either side. Fine tuning the shape of these will be done next time)

I like the idea of curving the inner part of the strips around the gauges. That dash is gonna look good!

Thanks OahuEli. I think I'll finish the strips once I've made the holes for the gauges and have the correct radius.(outer trim of the gauges). They will look less pronounced once they are mounted and painted in color. Hope to finish the whole dash next week.
