Does anyone have photos of Chapouris 1932 Roadster "Limefire". I have only found a few magazines with the info. Since it was named one of the 75 most significant 32's a thought I would find more photos. Anyone who has taken photos of this car attach thier photos HERE. I would love to go to Petersen Museum to see all the cars but cant afford it right now.

I used to have a big poster of it when I worked for Pete and Jakes. I'll dig around and see if I can find a good photo for ya. This is the only thing I could find online....

I think he was building a clone of it for a customer as well.

  6. That car got a lot of us fired up in the 80s! Was also featured in Street Rodder. Thats where Sandersons stock "Limefires" got their start.

How many of you remember when Pete built a roadster for his mom back in the early 70's, & first showed it at Great Western L.A. Roadster show???
The new license plate read: SIROD, this was his mom's name spelled in reverse!!---------------Just a little flashback in history!-------------Don

That rod ran 10's in the quarter with the B&M supercharger. The second owner used to street race it. Don't know who owns it now.

Dang, reading these replies makes it sound like this is some ancient hot rod or something....

Crap, it IS about 20 years old or so.

    ...but not quite ancient...yet.

  13. It is to alotta the youngsters on here

  14. I'm 52 and had built 20 streetrods when this car hit the circuit.

That car inspired me to build a 10 second Hot Rod... it was refreshing to see a real fenderless Hot Rod during a time of full fendered streetrods running stock 350's.

It had the classic sixties styled "Hot Rod looks with a removeable roll cage for strip use and performance that "Spanked" the hell out of the muscle car idiots.

May not be old... but it reset the Hot Rod trend to it's roots of High performance...!;)

It was one of turning points in hot rodding. After it hit the street AND strip it was OK to have a kickass HOT ROD and return the hobby back to it's roots......................going fast AND looking good. THANKS PETE.

I do not think it gets any better than that car. I too have the poster hanging on my wall. That color combo and flame job are genius. Besides it not being a show piece but a real Hot Rod just make it perfect to me.

I am not a huge fan of the color, but that is one kick-ass car. I remember it coming out, and thinking to myself: "Yeah, that's a hot rod!"

I have build pics of Limefire taken when I was @ Pete's house on LeRoy St. in Arcadia when he lived there. Both He & Eastwood did the chassis,(more P-Wood that Big Pete as he was down with a bout of pneumonia). His inspration for building this flame-boyant 32 was Tom McMullens former moon tanked shaker, The paint job was based on Richard Loe's Barris re-painted former Tom Pollard 29 Roadster .

Pete had just sold Pete & Jakes to Jerry Slover/Ruskin Auto Parts-Grandview MO. and was looking to do groundshaking project. Jim Davis from B-M (@ the time) was looking for a follow up to his Brizio Built and B-M Blown 32 that ran 12's and it all just kind of came together.

Even though P&J's the company was in MO. P&J's The Hair Pair were still @ it in the SGV building movers & shakers. This car was not w/o new car bugs. I remember that the front tires would not balance and Le Roy the tire guy had to do them on a bubble balancer. Those spindle mount castings were way out of wack!

The car was built for both show n go and And had killer tin work in it that even incorporated carpeting in between the bead lines in the floor.

It was on of my faves for 87 and made a statement where ever it went. I remember it out front of Blairs Speed Shop, next to Rodney It was X-Mas eve 1987 (jeez 21 yrs ago!) We ate Pizza, drank and watched burn out contests out front on Foothill! It was a very day!

Like Pete's 1st flamed car he didn't keep it long, By the time it was on the cover with KC Winkler and Jake's tub, It already had a new owner in KC's Husband. That had to be around June of 88. The relaunch of R&C was Nov 88 and was on news stands in Sept.

I still have the poster that gave Pete me. It was placed on hard backed poster board and in my garage in San Gabe.

email me if you'd like pics as I can't post for sh*t!

  20. Yup, 21 years ago put me as a Junior in HS. I was helping my painting mentor repaint Semis for ironically, the trucking company I now work for! I still have some line drawings of my Henry J that I used art markers to play with flamed color ideas. One was Burple like Petes 39 Ford and was was Lime like Limefire!!! Like I said, that car really made waves back then.

Thanks for all the response guys. I really liked the street/strip theme. I'm from the Midwest (Kansas) so back in 1987 I was just out of high school and was building a Camaro and hoped someday to see the car in person but no such luck.

Cyclone Kev if you find the build photos please attach them to this thread. I appreciate all who have responded with photos and comments.

Did the poster in the magazine include color interior photos?

I am looking for the issue that Pete Chapouris had his car in the magazine. Or any other magazine if it is on the cover or on the inside. If you could give me the month and year as well as the magazine name Pete had his car in them.

    Thanks

If you mean the nice little 27 green roadster, I thought that was built for his Dad. A few years ago so I could be wrong.

When I first saw that car I wasn't a big fan of the paint color, but after a while it grows on you. Nice car.
