"This side towards enemy", just gotta love it. Or aim it at mid-section level and fill it with rusty hardware smeared with dog poo.

Two in the chest, one in the head! Tap Tap Press! :)

I know this isn't really available for the average civilian, but some Ground Burst Simulators fell off a truck recently, and when I go out of town I run a trip wire for its pull-pin to my garage door. The GBS is zip-tied to my work bench. If the garage door opens, the GBS goes off. Shrieking whistle followed by a VERY large BOOOOOOM! These can be heard for miles! Should definitely wake up the neighbors.

I think I'm going to get a game camera as well. Very good idea.

Take an ammo can, bolt it up high, or out of the way in/on/under workbench. Paint it the same color as the wall its mounted to, or paint it to look like something. Insert camera inside ammo can.

One thing I often see in the HAMB is when people DO get photos of the thief, they don't really get a good look at the get-away vehicle....something to think about when positioning camera/cameras. Say, if you had a few other ammo cans, place it between them. Something to keep the scumbags from easily identifying it.

Outside of the garage/shop: Clear out clutter, shrubs, extra vehicles in driveway, etc. Install some sort of lighting that is on a timer. Sunset to sunrise. I had my truck broken in a few times, and simply wired up a light that shines on my driveway at night. No problems since installation.

Also, look in You Tube (and in here) for videos on how to break into a garage via the garage door. Disturbing, but preventable with a heavy gauge zip-tie. Some things should not be posted on the web, and that video is one of them.

most criminals( the smarter ones anyway) will use a stolen vehicle to do the crime and then dump it later...at best you will get a picture of the vehicle used..play it safe and get a device that you can physically locate the vehicle at all times. Just scored one off ebay for less than 15.00 now just need to call company and find out what it will cost to use it. good insurance I believe.

I had an 8 track player ripped from the lower dash on my 68 Camaro back in 1973. After saving up to buy a replacement, I modified my new unit by lining the back edge with single edge razor blades. A few weeks later my car got busted into again - the blood cleaned off pretty easily from my vinyl interior and the bloody basketball sized dent on the roof popped out with just a little effort....all in all well worth it.

A real low cost theft deterrent for a high school kid working a minimum wage job.

We used to do that too, a little contact cement held them on. I never had anyone try to take mine though.

You have to look at your garage from the standpoint of a thief. Mine was broken into 2x.

The first time, through a back window, solution: remove the window and close it up permanently. The next was through the steel side door, kicked it in and ripped the wood jamb, solution, install an extra HD and long deadbolt and a machined aluminum jamb plate lagged to the pressure treated studs.

A 3rd attempt was made to go through the side window, which was new and has a steel grate on the inside. That's when I went for the alarm system. I have signs on all windows and around the property. This may not stop someone hell-bent on getting in, but most thieves look for an easy mark and not something wired to a central station that has a loud alarm.

It's not a bad idea. I don't have faith in The Man to get my stuff back, but if nothing else it will help me to eliminate anybody I know as a suspect.

In my opinion, the majority of crimes are committed by somebody that knows what you have, some how, and I *might* just get lucky enough to ID them.

I actually saw the kid that breaks into cars in my neighborhood once. It didn't hit me till I parked what he was up to. Looked like about a 13 yr old urban youth, no chance my local sheriff would bother with him.

I like the car alarm/pager idea, but I'm not sold on that mickey mouse $20 remote doorbell.

Car alarms these days come with keyfobs that will alert you if your alarm goes off.

One from asianwolf will even take a low resolution webcam pic and send it to your remote. Unfortunately it looks so cheaply made as to be unreliable.

Every alarm should have a camera now a days.

Locks are too easy to pick. The easiest I ever picked was 'The Club' left on a steering wheel. Took seconds with standard picks.

As for dead bolt locks, bump keys are easy to make too.

On my dead bolts at my front and back doors, I have 'pinned' them. I use the heaviest duty plates. The bolt itself has a hole in it. I drilled thru my door jamb from the inside only, added a SS tube thru which I insert a long SS pin thru the tube and dead bolt when it's locked. Defeats the bump lock thieves. But it's only good for when you're inside the building.

.......I have a 120# Lab .with a loud bark and bad attitude thats lives in the shop....I pity the man who tries to break into my garage........I don't need no $20 camera to ID the robber.......Just visit the local hospital and look for the man with no balls........

I was a big believer in having a dog as a theft deterrent until my girl friend's german shepherd was killed during a break in attempt in our apartment years back. The would-be thieves didn't hang around after that, but the door was broken down.

Plus dogs can be "bribed" with food or neutralized with a blast of oven cleaner to the face. So while it sounds good on paper, you put a valued pet's life on the line when you expect it to be the alarm system and SWAT team.
