  6. The military conducted more tests on aerodynamics especially after the DC-2 showed that it could outperform the Military aircraft at the time in climb, speed and ceiling!

Pretty embarr***ing to our Navy fighter pilots when they couldn't keep up with a cargo plane!

That's why I originally posted photos as smaller JPEGS that could be made larger by clicking. Then they can't go away because they aren't hosted. Few seem to do this so I didn't either.
If these photos were "hosted "50 years ago they wouldn't be here today.

    **Any feedback on this?
**Do want smaller clickable photos that will be around forever or the larger hosted one that shows up big right away?

I'd prefer them not hosted elsewhere.

"Now 'Fast forward' to 1955" says John, "and a Pickfords chain drive Scammell (a 100 tonner, I think?) hauls a 4-8-2 engine en route to Sudan Railways via the huge lifting capacity of the Finnieston crane. Check out the second man monitoring the trailer's progress. His iden***y is obscured by a cloth 'bunnet' - a hat very much de rigueur at this time and a forerunner of today's 'C U Jimmy' cap with its attendant ginger hair! These two pictures are from a Glasgow Libraries
