I'm plannin on making a trip to Austin this weekend, I'll be staying real close to S. Congress and only about a mile from 6th street. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the cool place to go to are. I figured I'd go to the Belton Swapmeet on Saturday morning, maybe Visit Austin Speed Shop after that, and didn't know what the cool clubs and restraunts were.
My girlfriend and i just got back from a weekend trip to Austin to see Social Distortion at Stubbs. Stubbs BBQ was good and its a cool place to hear live music. We went to a bar, think it was called Jackalope, that had a good house band that played rockabilly/surf style music. The b*** player from Social D was hanging out drinking a beer with us, very cool guy. That was a Thursday night. Most of the bars on 6th seemed kind of "clubby" on the weekend, lots of b***. Not my style, but being a tourist it was hard to know where to go. Im sure some locals can chime in on the cool places better than i. Everyone was very friendly, and for some reason the Lone Star beer tasted pretty good. Maybe thats cause we can't get it in San Diego!
I've heard Stubbs is great, is that on 6th? I planned on checking out the Continental Club, but didn't know where else to go to here some good Rockabilly, Western, Surf music. The Continental will be walking distance, so I plan on crawling to the hotel saturday night
Torchy's Tacos at the trailer park eatery, man.....it's almost worth the drive just to grab some. I ate like three of them when I made it in for the Revolution!
Check out the San Jose Hotel !! just across the street of Continental Club. and as Ryan adviced me, stop by Austin Speedshop. ...................................... Taildragger&fenderless
I tried to get a room there or Austin Motel and both were booked for this weekend. They look like cool places to stay.
The Broken Spoke on a Thursday night for dancing, and a slice of Margarita from Home Slice pizza, just up the street from the Continental.
East side Austin has blown up and theres a bunch of great places to eat and it hasnt gotten "touristy" yet. Check out "Juan in a millions" for some great mexican food but get there early it's always jammed out. Theres a bunch of great bars down south depending on your scene most are chill . Check out "Crow bar" and inside of the San Jose they have a nice little bar area and patio. The food trailer scene is pretty big here too and south lamar and south 1st have food trailer parks where you can kinda sample local food on the quick. If your in town on Sunday check out "Jenny's little longhorn" for *********** bingo, cheap booze, and great live music. Try not to go broke...
Well Austinians....is anything else happening this weekend? I thought I'd ask one more time before I leave tomorrow. I'm excited....I don't get out much

Well, I made it back a few days ago, been busy, but I thought I'd update the thread! I had a blast in Austin, damn I wish that place was closer!!! Took me about 7 hours 15 mins to get there. The first night I rolled in around 1:15 am and drove straight to the Continental club, had a drink and listened to the last few songs. The next day went and checked out Austin Speed Shop. Erik was cool enough to give me a tour of the shop. Tried a few of the places you guys told me to go to....Hole Slice was AWESOME (margarita was the best) Had gueros for breakfast, also a great place. The most fun we had was at the Continental Club, I tried to drink as much Crown as I could but they just wouldn't run out! Listened to Clyde and Clem's Whiskey Business...sure was good times!!! Thanks for all the recomendations guys!
