Here's one I've wondered about for years. It's my Grandfather, and on the back it says "Dan A Williams, dealer in new Willys automobiles, Salinas, CA 1935+-"

Anybody know what year & model this is? That was just like him, drive a nice car up on top of a rock to show how stable and what great traction it has...Somewhere we've got a photo of him driving a new 1920's Star, with one front wheel missing, in a parade, signs all over it, to demonstrate how perfectly balanced these cars were...Of course, nobody got to see the 300 lbs of sandbags in the opposite corner of the trunk...

    Hoof22 that's a 1935 Model 77 sedan - wire wheels make it a '35.

1936 body was different at the rear with integrated tail lights in the main body - not like the 1933-35 stanchion mounted on the fenders, and the '36 had a full spare tire cover and artillery wheels.

Thanks, Weasel, makes sense from date on the picture...from what I can see, there's some serious rod material there, aside from the Gassers...Love those Utes!

    Thanks to everyone that replied.

FRENCHTOWN: Cool coupe and delivery. Looks like a blast to drive.

oldrelics: Thanks for the panel thread. I'll have to read more on that tonight. Looks like someone did a ton of work to turn that delivery around.

choke: I really enjoyed seeing Mick's posts on this car over on Gas-Fx. Your fab skills are top notch. All the extra detail you put into all those brackets, and tubing are incredible.

Weasel: Love all the alternative body styles. Those Australian coupes are pretty cool too. Wonder what ever happened to those 2 coupes that appear to be from the 80's car show? Those made an awesome pair (the girl's pair ain't bad either :D). I've seen pics of the black Reiker Willys, but never heard anything about it or the owner. Looks like it's no trailer queen. Who's white 36 coupe is that? That body looks super nice.

    deuce1932: Bad ass yellow 33.

landseaandair: That coupe is awesome. That's exactly the kind of thing I hoped to turn up in this thread. Any more info on it? Looks period perfect.

JimSibley: I'm amazed every time I see pictures of your coupe. I can't hardly believe how you turned that car around. Not many people would have been able to tackle that kind of project. You took something most people would have willingly to let go to the scrap pile, and turned it into a beautiful car. Plus you saved another old Willys in the process. Amazing work.

Thanks to everyone. Hopefully we'll draw some more Model 77 fans out.

Paul Rieker is a car guy who lives in Yorba Linda - he drives the Willys on the street. He found it in Santa Ana CA and built the car as you see it . The body is super solid. More than that I do not know.

White coupe (mine) is in awesome condition - unmolested sheet metal, original floors, no patch panels, perfect wood, straight as an arrow with 3" widened steel fenders and pie cut and widened running boards - all in steel. Looks almost factory stock unless you know otherwise.

Great thread WillysRule and thanks for posting it. You gotta love them Willys!;)

Why have all the Willys turned into gassers? I've often wondered this myself, why weren't they hotrodded back in the day. They are the definitive gasser to me (not necessarily the model 77's), just Bad Ass gassers.

Weasel; Thanks for the info. Your white coupe is super nice. I don't know if I've ever seen an original body that nice. It's going to make an awesome gasser. You're lucky you don't have to do all that patch work and metal work. You get to start on the fun stuff. What are your plans for it?

It really is that nice. The too wide truck beam axle has to go - I have a stocker for it. No firm plans yet, just a few ideas bouncing around, but here are some more photos - the top one shows the widened rear fenders from a better angle. I have all the garnish moldings, window glass, windshield frame, headlights, spare tire cover, trim etc. Basically everything except the original drive train and seats. All the woodwork is done as you can see. It's like starting with a 'glass' kit car except it's magnetic and doesn't smell....

Man, I don't think I've ever seen the structural wood in a model 77 Willys. You even have the braces tieing the wood together. That top wood is crazy looking. Almost looks like a big wooden shutter. You've got a rare car there, that's going to make a sweet hot rod/gasser.

Although I've had a steel 40&41, the 33-36 is still mt favorite. Here's an old racer being repaired.

Here's one of the more recent pics of that car. The body needed major repair. Especially the roof section and quarter windows.
