The oilers logo is going to be the new Andre The Giant!

  13. The CAD-T is Bob Wright and Don Berg's roadster. It was Hot Rod Magazine's "Hot Rod of the Month" Oct. '49.

Not sure when he joined but I'll check with him tomorrow. He is 84 and bowls on my team on Wednesdays.

Here is a photo of his membership card from 1949 that he let me post on our website .....

There were two members of the Hornets who have belonged to our club the Over the Hill Gang Berdoo. One was Walter Scott (of Scottys Muffler) who has passed on and Buster Burris who is still an active member of our club. Buster still has his Hornets club plaque. I will try to borrow it and scan it and post it later this week.

  19. Ahhh, Jimmy... thats right. I actually bought a Caddy motor bout 6 or 7 years ago as I always loved this little roadster. I'm sure it is why I picked the picture for my sons room. The guy ripped me off though, stinks. I had called the cops and he admitted to owing me the 900, but said I had aquired storage fees. So I let it go... win some, lose some.

See those tires on the back of that Cad powered roadster? I have one just like that but only one. I believe it's a european ford tire since the size is screwy. They're awesome it's like a maze!!!! It's going on a spare tire on my '35.

And speaking of tires, I love motorcycle tires on the fronts of old hot rods!!! My '33 my get some!

  21. I'm home again today, super...sick! But I have had a fun day talking back and fourth with Bill, aka Bullet-Nose. We were sharing some Oilers and Jack Carpenter info through email. It looks like I'll get a chance to talk with him too. I'll keep you guys posted.

I started this tread as I had recieved these little banquet books from Jim Nelson which had more then the Oilers cc info in them. To save doe, the Oilers teamed up with some friends in the Road Ramblers and San Diego Roadster club after the seaon to cellebrate their accompliments with a big party and made these cool little books to document thier doings. So I had hoped to help anyone looking for more info on thee other clubs, as I am always looking for info on the Oiler boys.

I'm glad others chime in though as you never know what you might find here. It is a small world, and I have met some great old guys... young too, craving more info on our beloved past time. Thanks all...

  22. I'm going to call Robert Genat today and see if Jim is up to talking with Jack as well. We'll see. Keep you posted.

Who are the oiler now? Are they all based in NJ basically? I'd assume it's all post war Hot Rods but not really a custom club right? You guys seem like the Choppers of the east coast. Authentic and legit!!!

Awesome collections. The old guys are probably really proud of the new assembled Oilers. The name, the logo the cars....it's all perfect!

  27. There are a bunch of other cars... but no customs. Not cause we don't like them, just because we dig hot rods more I guess.

We have a Flatty powered dragster which will be running this year, and a belly tank project a long ways off.

Our commitment to the club is to build and race. I hope we all get to do it together this summer, as we all have such crazy schedules, we haven't even had a meeting lately.

That's awesome. I love the mantra of "Our commitment to the club is to build and race." It's perfect. Funny I'm in a club of what seems like all customs and all I want to talk about is hot rods hahah!!!

Where are you running the flatty powered dragster?

  29. Thanks JJ. We are hoping to find more guys still alive. We were under the impression that most had passed. But I'm finding now... guys still alive.

My friend Justin in Ca. tells me there is a gent out there whom still goes to Bonneville every year with a Oilers plaque on his car. He also said their is another plaque on his car from a bike club, a very serious bike club. Interested in finding him too. Now Jack Carpenter pops up, so cool. Looks like I'm going to speak with him on Sunday. Bill(Bullet-nose) sez that Jim and Jack have seen each other not to long ago though??? Need to find out.
I talk with Robert Genat more then I do Jim Nelson these days. Jim and Robert were playing cards every Thursday. Funny, as Bill and Jack bowl together. Last time I spoke wih Robert, he said Jim wasn't feeling so well. Sucks... as I promised Jim a ride in my T. Car is here now in Jersey though as it broke when I was on my way the LARS show with it a few years ago. Jim is amazing, such a guy. And I mean besides his car accomplishments.

  30. We had plans of running it at a track I was working with. But I couldn't handle the way they did bussiness and treated their help, and the care for their patrons... so I split. So we'll be running it at some local spots by me, Atco, Island, etc. and, the other boys are from the Albany area... so I'm sure we have a few place to attend by them as well. I know we would like to bring it to a Hamb event and the Jalopy drags too. Life just gets in the way though... sucks we can't get to the things we love and respect. I should be good to go this summer... my kid is pretty easy, and we bring him everywhere anyway.

Al is always busy too, he runs Go Devil Garage. Always building Flatties and bangers, and building for others too. Jeremy has a job that takes him away often, he is a travelling fabricator, and Mike has two jobs as well. We have a bunch of friends that roll with us too, like Rick Vivona... sick fucker this guy is, and my neighbor Mikey longo. He helps me with all my events and design, and such. He has a sweet str8 6 with three 2's pick me up. That is him next to me in my roadster.
