Well heres the deal, this car is really bad, I mean bad, I dont really know what to do here......I have pretty good vision but I am having a hard time with this one, the frame is gone, the rockers gone, the lower cowl gone, the floors gone, the front clip gone, bottoms of doors pretty bad, no upper tailgate, no wood of course, no taillights, no tire mount or cover, no seats, I dont know if this thing is saveable or not, what do you guys think?

How much different is the ford and the merc? How hard would it be to cut the woody part off and graft it on a 4-door merc? Just kinda dreaming here....Jim

OK Did some measuring, the ford and merc are close, the big question for me is the doors, I am thinking shorten the ford door about 3" and then find another pair of doors to build the rear doors from and keep them suiside like the merc would have. What do you guys think? Or should I just do it as a 2 door like the merc woodys were? Could someone photoshop a 4-door merc woody for me? Thanks, Jim

Yea I got it and have left messages at both numbers but have not gotten a call back yet, hope to! I would love to have it, I have a couple merc parts cars so it would be way easier to build a merc for me and more along my lines as that is what I really collect.

I have a couple 50 ford 4-doors and a 50 ford 2 door sedan, are the frames the same under any of these? Come on woody guys, help me out here! Jim

Thank you for saving it. These cars from the past will be gone forever if we don't stay vigilant. I just missed a Ford Starliner on the way to the crusher. Too late to save it. At least the guy got $250 for scrap value. Not my kind of car, but a sin to destroy it.
Please, keep us updated with words and photos.

A Merc Woody would be pretty cool. I'll see what I can come up with Photoshop-wise. What year is your Merc?

I have 49 and 50 mercs so they are pretty much the same. Thanks, Jim

  18. Since you have those Merc parts cars, I would combine them as has been suggested. Somewhere in the depths of my brain I understand that the Ford and Merc woodie bodies were the same, mostly just different front clips and dashes maybe? The Merc frames are the same, I think 2dr and 4dr, too, and you have those. I think this is definitely doable with what you have on hand. If not, sell me what you have and I will do it. ;) Like I need another project. LOL

OMG careful what you wish for.
Your going to need help from T.FRITZ @ Customs, Classics, & Rods call 763-241-1252 and get his catalog.

  20. Just cut a 4-door with a good frame down to the floorpans and graft on what's left of the top of this one, weld a ton of braces in it and cut the rotted remains away, and figure on building it as a custom that doesn't need the stock taillights or spare tire mount.

I made the same guess and bought a nice 50 fourdoor for the frame and front clip...only used the clip 'caus the frame is different. I never thought 'Ol Henry would make a frame just for wagons, but he did. Merc wagon doors are different as well as the front clip (but car clips are the same).

This may be close to what you're looking for, Jim. The doors would have to be built to fit the contour of the Merc fenders, but they have to be built anyway. I also did a two door version.

Here is the long 4 door version like your airport limo pic. I'll do a version tonight that pulls the Merc fender line the full length of the car.

That's what I would do. Cut the woody body off where the sides meet the floor and through the A-pillars, then cut up a 4 door shoebox in the same areas and swap.

Sure, a 4 door Mercury woody would be cool, but at that point you may as well just add the rear roof section to the Merc 4 door to make it a wagon and woodgrain the steel Mercury doors. Photoshop that, it might actually work.

  26. When & if it gets into one of the magazines, PLEASE grind on them until they agree to run one "before" photo with the feature!!! I did that with a 69 Hemi Charger that we found and got a great response.

I am really liking this....the rear doors being suiside, maybe chop it 3" or so, skirts, I can really see this being a car that I could love for the rest of my life! Jim

Took my Photoshop chainsaw to it, chopped it about 3 or 4 inches, added skirts and whitewalls. Hell I'm not even a sled guy but I'm digging this! :D
