I was told this is a tank engine ? It appears to be all aluminum,and produced in 1945 ? What displacement ,HP , Torque ETC ?
It's a Ford GAA They used them in some WW2 Sherman tanks. It's a 4 cam 32 valve, all aluminum V-8. It is sitting in the back of a sheet metal shop I use,The guy who ownes it is not selling it .Its been there for a few years ?He got it from a farmer in Iowa ? used as a irragation pump ? But I will keep trying to get it from him !!

w...t....H!?!?!? That thing is wicked. I had NO idea it was that HUGE. The video of it in the Mustang is out of control. No way in hell that would fit in an A! I would look cool for about 5 seconds before the frame folded, lol.
About 900-950 stripped of the stuff needed for the Sherman tanks, 1100 lbs as installed. Hell the flywheel weighed 150 lbs and the twin disc clutch 75!
I think Jay Leno has a roadster with one of those (or similar) tank engines in it....it is WICKED !!! ON EDIT...looked on Google...here is a picture of it...
Weights given here are about right from what I know. My Pep Boys hoist would pick one up just fine. I thought one would be just about right in an AA/GL. Thought I had some guys lined up to handle the chassis part of the deal. But they punked out. So I sold the motors.
Nope. That's a Contineltal 1,790 cubic inch air cooled V12. 810 Hp and 1500 lbs torque stock! This engine weights 2300 lbs and holds something like 16 gallons of oil. I've got one of these. I bought it to put into a hot rod firetruck...just haven't gotten around to building it. intake runner size Overhead cam hemi with roller cam followers! exhaust and engine driven cooling fans
A friend of mine had one of those engines. It has overhead cams, and the cams are driven by worm gears. I don't remember the details, it was originally designed for aircraft use. My friend found unused heads and a variety of NOS parts. Today some are used to power large irrigation pumps.
I met the guy who owns the Mustang while riding on the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge train a few years ago. Neat guy. We started talking about this motor and he whips out a bunch of pictures of the thing!! It's the craziest thing you have ever seen!! It never ceases to amaze me what is being built in garages and shops all over this country. FUN FUN FUN!!!
They have one of the aluminum tank engines at "Space Age Paint" in Mesa, AZ if anyone wants to stop by for a look-see. Its in their showroom with a few other interesting engines.
Isn't the owner of that Mustang a member, Locomotive Breath? Wonder if he ever finished it, I'd love to see it on the street. It looks a lot like one of those old MPC Zingers kits...
It's not finished, currently sitting on my lift. I buy a part for it here and there, work on it when the mood strikes me. Thinking I'll bring it out to the Dairyette show.
