my intro (so I don't get flamed), with pics

I read a post from a guy who was plenty riled up that said FNG's should post in the intro section first, so here goes.

My name is Brookin Stephens and I'm from eastern Oklahoma in the good 'ole U.S. of A. I'm married for almost 12 years now to Crissy, with kids Emma (6) and Sam (2). I work at a machine shop where my job is primarily as a cylinder head builder, though everyone does a little bit of everything since the shop is not a huge place. We do all kinds of work, from stock builds to all out race, with farm and industrial thrown in for good measure.

You won't hear from me much, more of a reader than a poster. I won't randomly post "Awesome pic!" or something like that just to rack up my post count. I like simple things, that usually equates to old things. My house is old, my car is old (sort of), I FEEL old when I wake up in the mornings. I won't use terms like "LOL" or "ROFLMAO", although "FNG" is funny and "FED" is just bad ***.

My daily driver, my ONLY driver for that matter, is a '81 Trans-Am that my dad bought new in Jan. 1981. I've loved it since it was was new and I'll never sell it. It's on its 3rd paint and 2nd engine/****** and has probably 300K miles on it. It's time for another update, so the next re-do will have it going back to its original color and the engine is going to get upgraded to 490+ ci of aluminum-headed traditional Pontiac.

I've been driving dirt circle track race cars for the last 12 years or so, been very fortunate to have won a championship (that one's for you, Dad) and a lot of A-features. I feel it's one of the few things I do well, and I've enjoyed it a lot, but it's time to do something different. I have a really bad itch to build a hot rod pick-up, maybe late 30's, and a front engine dragster is definately on my list of things to do.

I learned how to drive when I was about 10 years old, in the Trans-Am of course. I learned how to drive a stick shift in my Dads '35 Chevy 3-win. coupe, an all steel car with a hot 327 and a 4-gear. My dad sometimes worked off all week and when he was gone I'd take it out in the pasture and do donuts and power-slides in it and just basically try to burn the tires off it. Then I'd put it up and pray he didn't notice it had been moved. But I figure he knew, dads ALWAYS know. I loved that car and vow to have one of my own one day. My Dad has been a car guy all his life and I guess it's rubbed off on me. I look back at the photos of the cars he had over the years and realize I'll never be as cool as him. Our family albums are full of '57 Chevies, big block Chevelle's, a really neat '50 Olds coupe with a tri-power set-up, the '35 Chevy we always just called "the Coupe", and the ever-present '81 Trans-Am. All those cars are gone now, except for the Trans-Am, but I still have my dad, and whenever he asks if I want to go to a swap meet or car show or dirt track race I do my very best to go with him. I hope my son thinks I'm the greatest one day.

Here's my dad back in the day:

This is me gettin' it done at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oklahoma where I won a track championship:

So I guess that's it, any Q's about my work or hobbies just ask.

Thanks guys. The table full of food was at Thanksgiving this year. I feel a little ashamed because there was so much of it, it's like that at every holiday gathering. I've been blessed with a great family. I still have both my grandparents on my moms side, Papa's 85yrs old and Nana is 81 and I go see them whenever I can. He originally built the '35 Chevy my dad had, put it together in about '69 or '70. Dad bought it from him in about '72 before he and my mom even got married. My Grandpa has always been a car guy too, he LOVES Lincolns and Cadillacs.

Whatever that is in the middle between the Parkay tub and the salt and pepper grinders, I want some. Got my belly growling.

And by the way, welcome from West Ky!
