Hot Rods I gave the modified some manners

My modified has been on the road for about a year. Well...sort of. It hasn't been registered so I've been very limited where I can drive it on 28 day permits.

It needed some stuff that I really struggled to do....cycle guards (fenders) and some kind of cover to stop dumb*****s burning themselves on my headers. I didn't want them but had to do it.

So I finally bit the bullet. Funny thing is now it's done I don't mind it too much.

I would have had a hard time too! But you pulled it off nicely - now it's time to enjoy...

I think it looks just fine. The cycle guards suit the car and the heat shields are unobtrusive and appear to be functional as well.

By the way, I like the way you feed the exhaust from the headers to the under-car exhaust. It's subtle, and less obvious than the typical pipe hanging down from near the tip and curving under the frame rail.

Nice fenders. Are they totally fabricated? Or available down under? Gary

By 2 Pete - Subtle as you can get - well done.

Good luck on registering the car. I'll have to talk to your engineer - mine wants headrests, 3rd brake light, and such

  14. Nice work Pete, I'll echo the others comments. The heat shields are very subtle didn't notice them the first in the first pic! Just thought they were mounting studs...

I like the exhaust with the heat shields better. Makes it look finished.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I expected at least a few "Nanny State" comments.
One more hurdle. Noise test tomorrow. Then go and see Con. Just having SR plates.

I had the sheetmetal rolled to my specs and fabbed the brackets by hand.

Gave up on the engineer a long time ago for all the same reasons....Con reg for me.

The fan and alternator have guards. Have not been asked to cover the belts (yet).

When I posted that last one I saw the rear view mirror that I put on it. More manners. It's practically a family sedan now!

VERY NICE!!! I remember when you started this project and you should be very proud of what you've turned out. I can not imagine working under the constraints you guy have to put up with.

We have a fender law here in California but unless you***** with the man it's generally not enforced. At least I haven't gotten busted for it yet. I hope if I ever have to mount fenders I can bring it off as well as you did. They look good. The exhaust mod is very unobtrusive. I've seen your car on here before and it's always been one of my favorite roadsters. Ya done good!

  23. Very tidy job, they are quite unobtrusive. If you 'gotta have them thats the way to do it.
