Projects Need input on scallops for My F-100 (photoshop help)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BIGREDTODD, Dec 14, 2010.

  1. Let me first say that My truck has been in the same black primer since 1997. It has had red wheels since that time also, just a different set. I happen to like satin black on it for now, and for that reason it will be getting a fresh coat by spring time.

That being said, I'm bored with the scheme, and am entertaining a mild scallop job on the sides, and possibly the hood. The interior of the truck is, and will remain red & white (original) and the wheels will be repainted to match the factory white.

Below is an awesome piece of art that Zombie posted here years ago, that I kept a copy of because it is, well, perfect. Also attached below is a poorly executed (in paint program) scallop job to show what type of thing I am envisioning. I would love some help, and an openly asking for opinions and input on the subject.

Something along these lines is what I'm thinking...

Here's a blank slate if there's anyone wanting to take a stab at it...

You're off to a good start. I like the accents you are making. Just buy lots of 1/4" blue tape. Remember to follow the body lines. Tape it out, pull it outside so you can get a ways away from it. Look at the lines of the truck and then look to see if you are in sync (parallel, curves, arcs, etc). Pull the tape off what you don't like and do it again. Taping your lines will take longer than prepping and shooting. 1 1/2 days for mine. If I remember there's some great lines to follow on the hood, too. Sorry I don't have photoshop experience, but the truth lays in laying the lines on the truck.

Bigredtodd, I think you hit a home run with the scallops:

I remember seeing one of those trucks on an old paint poster that was gold and had a 68-69 thunderbird grill and hide away headlights. It looked really trick. I like the body style and really like the scallops. TP

I'd shoot for the "blank slate" & call it done.

    Simple & clean. Perfect.

  7. Really like what you did here Dave, even the red stripes. You did a great job smoothing my cave scratches out, and I like the sharp points at the leading edge. That's just the vibe I'm after. The 2nd version, while it clearly took some time (which I certainly appreciate) I feel it kind of "fights" the lines of the wheel openings.

I had messed with raising the top (straight) line of the scallop, to continue it over the wheel openings and over the front leading edge, but I just felt that it was too much scallop.

I agree...I think the 2-tone scheme, along with the chrome reverse wheels is perfect...and when the $$ arrives, my '60 will be red/white. Zombie's art was actually a red/white truck...I'll have to post a pic of that also.

For now though, some fresh trim black and some careful revisions will give "Earl" a fresh look in time for some public appearances.:D

    Thanks for the input guys!

Like the layout !! here's a pic of my buds black car with red scallops ( shorties ) and a white pinstripe.

also his model A with black and white tommy the greek striping on a red background. Might help to you to compare.

Good luck, post up some pics when done. CJ

  9. Thanks CJ...

Love the red scallops with the white stripes...

I'm all but 100% decided on painting the wheels white (Ford's "Corinthian White" is more ivory than pure white) as well as white scallops...but definitely going to use some subtle red highlights.

Just ready to break from the black/red wheels look...even though I have enjoyed having it for the past 10 years...

One from a while back - more of a sixties vibe.

This here I am liking it. Lots! You can always rely on James to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Good luck with whatever you decide, Todd, but I think you will have to go some to beat this, in whatever colour combination you choose.

  12. That's pretty sweet James...a little further than I want to go on this one, but damn...that has a cool look.
