Ok, it's all coming back now....
This as I remember is the floor of the NY State Pavilion, (this one )[IMG]
I think it was a map of the entire state. I grew up 4-5 blocks away... and can remember walking to the Fair quite often, I would have been 4-5 years old. The car the little girls is in was a stroller that you could rent.
Later in the 70's the city tried to make use of some of the old fair buildings. This one was used as a roller skating rink because of it's super smooth floor. It was sorta surreal going round n round on top of a map... oops sorry, 70's thing ... So, the city shut it down when the colored plastic (?) roof a 100 ft. above started shedding panels, never fixed up, just sitting and rotting away now... pics from then and now below...

the map shows western ny SW of the Buffalo area. Exit 59 of the NY Thruway is directly infront of the mothers right foot. Dunkirk fredonia, ssouthern tier is usually thought of as the Bighamton area.

    geez, sad and creepy.

    It begs the question:
Why, if something could have given so much enjoyment years ago why it couldn't provide the same enjoyment today?
Is it because of it's location?
Are these places that provided so much fun now part of a derelict neighborhood?

It's sarcasm, I know what it's supposed to be, I am quoting a certain someone. I understand English quite well.

  17. It is sad, like old cars rottin' away, but not for sale.
Location? Well Mazooma, I've been gone about thi-r-t-y (wow) years now. I'm sure the old neighborhood hasn't gotten (better). The Worlds Fair grounds are now a public park (Flushing Meadow Park), it's a very nice open green space in the city, like Central Park. Back when the Fair closed, most of the buildings were demolished as they were "temporary" structures(?). Of the ones that made that cut a few sat empty, never a good thing in the big city. It sure was exciting/stupid exploring these once futuristic, now dark wet and piss stinking derelict's of my own past. You had to worry about older/badder hoodlums AND the cops. Then they tore those down. The ones that survived that were used as science museum w/ Nasa rockets outside (still there). The heliport became a restaurant up in the air on top were the copters used to land. I went to several Bar Mitzvah's (?) there in 72', 73',ten stories high, bell bottoms, platform shoes, gurls, bad jazz/jewish music, drunk old people, stolen bar carts... oh yeah! SORRY, I'm back. I don't think this building is used anymore. Anyway when the skating stopped the city said budget cuts blah, blah, but at this point I'd say she's a total lose and liability.
    Did I type all that?

Not to step on Tee or Model-A Kieth; if I am, just tell me & I'll cancel the post.

Though this diving outfit looks ancient, it was the only way to do underwater inspections and repairs wherein a man needed to stay submerged for a prolonged time. After Jacques Cousteau invented the aqualung (S.C.U.B.A.) in the WWII era, a wetsuit and SCUBA gear supplanted the bulky "deep-sea" gear, including the lead weights in the boots.

So, THEN, we got Lloyd Bridges!!! LOL
