I'm sure pleased to see you've stuck with the car and are doing a great job! For a floor shifter I'd check the local junkyards for a wrecked aguar sedan. I found they used TH400 trannies and the floor shifters are easily adapted to your automatic. I gave $20 for one complete with the cable and arm for my proect.

Hey listen man, take your time, talk to or make some friends in the hobby if you don't have them already and then get to work. Take a little bit at a time and next thing you know your on the road. If the original cross members are in place go back to buggy spring off you go.

Just looking in to see how things are going.
Don't know if you figured out your shifter yet.
Someone suggested the junkyard. I try to maintain a little pile of usable junk to save the trip. Was amazed how an old Ford automatic floor shifter worked in my one Chevy project.
But my current project uses a Gennie trans mount unit that works GREAT! No button to rattle! I used a vintage style boot and piston knob and am quite happy. Only upgrade I can suggest is beefing up the shifter rod supplied with the kit. I sleeved the threaded portions to take out flex and couldn't be happier with the set up. Hope it helps you.....

  5. Aggie - you're doing great on this! You're putting some quality parts in, doing nice work and making really good progress. On the 'staying within my budget' part - I don't know if ANY of us has ever been able to do that! As I always say - "If we knew how much time and effort it would take" . . . we'd never start anything :D

The knowledge you're gaining is priceless - you might tell your wife that you're "Home Schooling" in a new traditional Mechanical Engineering degree. And instead of having a big ole' Student Loan to payoff at the end - you'll have a car!

Thanks for all the help, folks. I made a change this week- a HAMBer father and son shop up on Buffalo offered to trade my 34 + cash for a daily driver 41 Chevy sedan 4 door Special Deluxe. I traded up on Thursday- they had fun hauling down through the DC snow (not so good at road treatment here). So I learned some along the way on the 34. Now I have a 41 that needs an interior and some minor work (e.g., trunk handle, door locks, some floor penetrations, etc), but has a crate 350/350TH and rebuilt suspension that are 5 or 6 years old and low mileage. Got a donor car for its 350/350 last month, so I'll hold that in reserve for a couple years while I look for a coupe for my project (this one is my 2nd daughter's- and she swears she'll let me drive it every now and then!). I'll load some pics later, having problems with my camera at the moment. Nice dark green, good chrome, some interesting pinstriping, guages work.

Main thing is to be happy................
If your 41 is unchopped and not dropped, pick your spot at the drive-in near the rear of the lot. First thing I heard when I drove mine in was "HEY, Down in front !"

I remember your earlier post about your stature and fitting in the 34. You should have more elbow room now.................

    MERRY CHRISTMAS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Sounds like you are happy which is what is important. Glad you are happy. :D

  9. Sounds like a good move. Instead of a frame up refurb this summer, you'll be cruising.
