Actually, several people drove their hot rods from TX... and OK, NY, NV, PA, KS, MO, IN, MI, MN, ND, SD and really all over the US and Canada. People flew in from Brazil, Norway, Italy, Spain, and Iraq and I'm sure other places.

What's all this talk about Sturgis and Woodstock!?!?

Yes, they were and we paid them to be there, but like Plowboy said the Fairgrounds only hold so many cars and we maxed out early. There was nothing we or the cops could do about it.

His name is Captain something or other. He's friends with the Voodoo Kings in case you want to get in touch with him. He built the pink Caddy with the pipes coming out of the hood and in the infamous skull car, as well as the coffin car that was at the 1st 2 Pileups.

Yeah, that makes me sick. You guys make this show happen. Thanks for being patient.

True, but show cars weren't the problem. Spectators.

and it's historical significance. Thanks for all your helpful comments, Rick.

    Exactly.

I was standing with Appleseed when Magnet collapsed. There was nothing that could be done, it happened so fast, and then Kansas...Ray Gun...Django...Jester...Hellfish...Lucky...Lowpunk...Sharky...then even DW fell. One by one they dropped in their tracks from over-exposure to weeks and weeks of extra work to get the show running and then the abuse they received from a tiny minority of attendees. The stories they heard of their faithful Red Shirts being heaped with scorn and maltreatment broke their hearts and like soldiers they fell before us.

Okay a little over the top but you get the point. I was one of the Red Shirts, I stand the Main Gate from 3:00 to the bitter end. To clarify a point that I'm sure the Czars have already done, the Grundy County PD was aware of the event (happens every year on the second weekend) and were therefore warned that there might be a call to provide some support. As many have noted, this years turnout was FAR larger than any previous year by a long shot. No one could have forseen what would happen. I myself almost got run over by a young gent trying to get out the gate, his response to my protest, "Well, I didn't hit you." as he drove off made me frost. This was an exception to the rule however.

It was very difficult for us to have to stand the gate and turn people away, let no one think we took that for granted; for those of you who tried to attend, we know how much you wanted to be there because we're the same type of people. The Czars and their Red Shirts didn't want to turn you away at all but the decision was taken out of their hands.

The guys all have full time jobs, they've got families, kids, mortgages, and a week only has so many hours to get things done. They've asked for constructive suggestions, mates, if you've got some ideas, help these guys. Last year, $25,000.00 was donated to charities. This year they hope to do at least that much. They get nothing out of this show but personal satisfaction and they ask for nothing in return but basic respect. Give it to them and step up. If this is truly your hobby and lifestyle, do what you can to preserve the feel and community of this show because as many of you know, there are precious few others like it that don't feel like a tapestry for product sales and corporate money making. Keep it in the grassroots mates.

Bring it on down to "Branson, Mo." plenty or room, cops are cool, food is great, scenery is great, plenty of motels, ample parking and things to do for the whole family! Really need to check it out!
