oh damn!' i've heard about this car forever from my dad & uncle. this guy lived in lompoc, around the corner from where my dad lived. when they were kids they would go check it out and watch him work on it!
Different car,Fontannini&Nannini built their own hardtop after they screwwed up the body converting their sedan.
I don't know if "Troublemaker427" has posted this or not, so here goes. Steve Magnante emailed this to me tonight, his Ford Fairmont street/strip machine under construction...
Being into drag racing in the early 60s, I still think the Mopars made the best looking AWB out there. Seemed thet just had the look.
I had a thread from a few years ago trying to ID an AWB Chevelle a coworker bought... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129260 It's the same blue Chevelle Unclescooby posted early in this post. Turns out that car is the famed Tiger II that everyone seems to love.
Hey if weren't all a little Twisted we would most likely be in a nut house And not doing what we injoy to do.
Amen to that! Don't know him personally, just have followed his ramblings for years. I hadn't noticed the licence plate before, now I REALLY like it.
Great looking piece! It has the right look ... sort of like a modern body version of a NASCAR Ultra/Stock car from the mid sixties. The right stance, the long rear wheel openings, the right wheels up front and with injectors rather than a blower. Nice concept. Joel
For those interested in AWB/AFX cars in 1:18 scale, some new ones are expected next week. Free shipping to US48 if ordered in advance (by Jan 3rd 2011). Just received some acual production samples of these yesterday. ALSO receiving a BLACK one with Keystones and tall stacks (automatic car). White one has Cragars and short stacks (4 speed car).
When Steve and I builtthe Fairmmont, we left the stock drivetrain completely intact, and built the front end around the drivetrain. I borrowed it one day, needing a car. It actually drove insanely well. Steve once drove it from California to Arizona, with no issues. Its great to see Steve get the cammer installed!! But that old six banger that was in it was a force to be reconed with!!!!
This showed up over on the Old Farts Club social group. Don't know if it's been posted here or not. If it has, let me know and I'll delete the post. Step by step "how to" from Mopar. Larry T http://www.moparmax.com/features/2006/images/05-report/report.pdf
No, it is not, sorry. My dad did not do that to the car. The Big Money is in Florida. That was Dicky Dykes car that was in my dad's shop. It got lettered up so my dad could show up in a match race. Then it was renamed the Collector.
Thanks for the correction Steve. Hard to recall all the cars off the cuff. Post some AWB pics when you can.
